Some of /a/'s most well-liked series were originally light novels. It's definitely not something you should flat out ignore.

Unable to confess, he is gifted with by a deus ex machina with the story's post number. Never minding the strange URL, he immediately calls her, and is overjoyed to find out that she has a crush on him as well.

After some investigation, he finds out that the story he called is not the same story he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn't exist in this universe at all. She is the story's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of her crush.
Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. No. The best shows are all Originals, Novel adaptations, or manga adaptations. There is not a single anime adaptation of a Light Novel I've seen that I would miss if it never existed. And before you attempt to recommend me your favorite pile of shit, I can assure you I've already seen it.
Light Novels are literally Japanese "young adult," novels. And just like I ignore that giant shelf full of twilight and the hunger games flavor of the month bullshit at the bookstore, I will continue to ignore the Japanese equivalent. There's simply too much good anime in the world for me to not easily judge a book by its cover like this.

I'm glad I watched them, but I wouldn't miss them if they never existed. There's no need to disregard all LNs. There is only a need to disregard the ones tagged "Harem", " Highschool", and "Ecchi". That prunes 80% of the 99% of the follow the leader tripe and leaves the ones that make the slightest attempt to be different and worthwhile.
It's not foolproof (Rokka is an example just from last season that was crap) but it brings the hit vs miss ratio much closer to manga adaptations.
Now as for visual novels, those really can all be disregarded entirely because there is not a single one that isn't ecchi harem.
People complained a lot about the summer season being one of the worst we've had in a while but I still had a lot of fun. Even shit shows like Charlotte were a blast to discuss with /a/. This season I picked up only a handful of shows and I'm barely even keeping up with them, I haven't even been spending much time on /a/ lately because there's nothing worth discussing. Winter can't possibly be worse than this season.
