Depends of what you mean by important.
It really seems like Banrise's goal from the beginning was to animate Shogun Assassination's Arc as soon as possible. A lot of the animated arcs for this season were ones that help flesh out the characters involved in it.Tsukuyo isn't in the Shogun Assassination Arc so I guess that means we won't get the love potion arc

Fuck that noise, not me. Gintama's been my favorite series for over 8 years now and this arc single highhandedly ruined the series for me.
I just hope Gintama ends soon now, a nice quick death is the best thing I can hope for for the series.

It's connected to them, but there's really nothing stopping them from throwing more stories in the middle. The manga hasn't ended yet, so they can't really "end" the anime. They might do that in order to have some lighter stories between the serious arcs, unlike what the manga has done recently.

To be more specific, in the manga, we have the Kondo and Matsudairabeing accused of the shogun's death.right after the shogun arc ends.
If the anime wants to throw comic relief stories in the middle, it could either leave the last scene of the shogun arc for right before the shinsengumi arc, or they could even keep everything the same.
Even though in the mangathey're being accusedright in the next chapter, delaying that in the anime for a while wouldn't be that odd. They've already gotten all shogun related stories out of the way too.
Good, now I can finally pick up the anime again. The shogun arc is what everyone wanted to see, not entire seasons of yet more "funny" Shinpachi screaming shenanigans.

We're 31 episodes into this run. Assuming they're going for another full year, we still have at least 19 episodes - 4 before the shogun arc, then 15 afterwards including the shogun arc. The anime clearly can't even cover even just all the serious arcs in 15 episodes. I still think we're going to get random comedic stories after the shogun arc, unlike in the manga.

From a plot hole perspective, would anything really change if theKyoto assassinationwere delayed by a few weeks in-universe? The what-the-fuck factor was reduced in the manga because it happened immediately (and it'll be a fucking bombshell if they do fit some comedy arcs inbetween) but I don't see it breaking the series.

Why are they even trying to do it now. That arc killed all the comedy of Gintama because of the fallout from it and it's been in generic battle shonen mode since then. No breaks. Shit just kept getting realier and realier. I don't even know what's happening anymore.

All the characters are currently in battle or about to be in a battle and the Sensungumi have basically become jou patriots at this point.
