I was among those who watched Soul Eater as it aired and was saddened when it took an original direction (I think it was around when Mifune was spared, everything after that sucked).
Generally speaking, I remember BONES having a reputation for good animation and music above all else, but that they were a studio that could never stick the landing. YOU may want to change history, but it's always been like this. And much as I loved E7, it actually had a mixed reception all around because not all of its 50 or so episodes were very good.

From what I remember people liked the TV series ending at its core but hated the "real world" bullshit with the gate. Nobody likes the movie. I just remember Soul Eater getting very little fanfare in general and as it went on there were barely any threads about it up until COURAGE PUNCH ending.

I have never once denied that BONES made bad anime my entire argument is that people reception to BONES changed after Xam'd which it did and people are calling generally good shows that they worked on shit because they can't escape the BONES is bad meme yet they're still waiting for a Darker Than Black sequel of all things. There's nothing BONES has done this year that I would say deserves such disdain every studio has its fuck-ups but its based to associate those fuck-ups to the staff involved and not the studio.

Before Xam'd, after Xam'd, it's a long history literally either way. It's either 7 years or about 15. Roughly a decade in either case. That's a long time.
And honestly, I've never seen it as a meme. People were burned bad by several REALLY bad works from BONES and became wary of them, and lo', they haven't REALLY recovered from that. There has been some good and a lot of bad. Generally speaking, people still respect BONES for its animation and its music no matter what (unless it's Soul Eater NOT!) but they're wary and I completely do not see why anyone should be blamed for that. I haven't watched their previous two allegedly all-around good works, but that's only two, and it would be really silly to start trusting them for that. I'll wait and see rather than assuming the worst OR the best.
