I kind of love that about this. They hype up the MC as near unbeatable, and he constantly gets beaten half to death because his luck is shit and he only ends up fighting the dozen or so people who he's at a massive disadvantage against.

You just can't appreciate the fact that the whole point of it was to point out thay modern day education systems occasionally fail to evaluate great talent properly, and that when it happens you are generally screwed to mediocrity at best or get lucky by having a starting point much better off than everyone else. The entire point of Onii-sama being so incredibly perfect was to emphasize both that the system can miss truly great talents, while simultaneously demonstrating the bullshit that is when you happen to be a victim of an evaluation that doesn't fit you only the lucky born into privilege make it out. Mind you none of the course 2 students shown particularly suck, and none of the course 1 students are shown to be particularly incapable. It isn't saying the system is completely broken, just has cracks, and Tatsuya is meant to emphasize the worst case scenario when someone falls through the crack, though he is still more privileged than others and this counteracts the failing.
I also appreciated how it shit on modern day politicians who use feel good promises to garner support when they're empty at best, and how they may as well be terrorists, by using actual terrorists.
By no means am I saying Onii-sama is very well written, it's more he was written that way to emphasize two points.
Actually it emphasizes three points, the third being if society evaluates you poorly your hot younger sister may still lust after you so it isn't all too bad.
