I'm a pleb that started with the anime and doesn't read old threads. What do manga readers think about White? I'm liking her character so far and was very surprised to learn that she's an anime original.

That sentiment's been echoed a lot here recently. She as a character and the anime original plotline have almost been too good to be true, and some anons seem to be waiting for the other shoe to drop and Bones to go off the rails, but others trust the director's vision and believe she's going to do a good job.
I'm in the latter camp personally. I haven't seen anything this well-done and enjoyable for several years, and I'm having a hell of a lot of fun on the ride.

Huh, good to know that she's being well-received by some here. I was expecting there to be a lot of backlash surrounding her since anime-original content almost always turns out to be terrible; hopefully that won't be the case here. Probably helps that the original creator had a hand in developing her character.

I think the appeal is that she's just normal girl, not a tsundere or any kind of forced personality trait (I personally like it when KugiRie gets to play against type). Plus, she hasn't forced her way into the story like some Scrappy Doo character; she exists in the periphery and her relationship with Leo is established on and off screen. The relationship feels natural: he visits her time to time and they hit it off. I can believe Leo would develop a crush on a girl just because she's cute and is nice to him. She's also adding plot to a series that would be episodic otherwise.
The only thing that might even count as backlash are people disappointed that scenes were cut out in order to fit the original stuff in, but that isn't against her as a character or the content itself. It's a shame, but honestly inserting pieces of the original material here and there is the right way to go about this.

Yeah, she did, but all she really did was tell him about what she did to BrodyHummer. The romance talk was all brand-new stuff for the anime, and they really improved that scene in every way if you ask me. Everything that was added in was staggeringly on-point, not only for Aligula's character and Leo's state of mind and worries at that time but with a lot of thematic relevance to both the framework of this ep's story and the Howaito and Leo plotline going forward.
I know I'm probably going to get crucified for saying this, but the review of it on ANN had a pretty well thought-out analysis of the themes in this episode. Worth checking out.

It's true. There are plenty of imagesets that start out with BL images and then in the middle there will be stuff like Leo and Howaito riding tandem on his scooter or keyhole sweater Chain.
Fujoshi don't hate het and spurn every boy-girl pairing, you know. Plus a lot of Kekkai fans seem to be quite well-rounded in general.

On another note, does BONES typically do the whole drama CD thing? They've got a stellar cast here and the setting allows them to pretty much do whatever they want. It'd be a wasted opportunity if they didn't at least attempt to milk it that way a little. I for one want see how White and Leo were like between "I'm a ghost, let's be friends" to them already getting along swimmingly or what Femt does in his boredom (does he drag Aligula and Despair-kun along?). Basically stuff that wouldn't fit in the show.

Makes sense I think. Assuming they're going in order and won't skip back to do Gilbert or something(though they are backtracking for Fight Club for some reason), Chain's chapter is the only major thing it would really make sense to adapt.
One with growing guy was okay, but it's another "Leo is nice" episode just like the burger one we're getting. Same with gardening club, don't think they'll do another Klaus.
If it's the one with Zed, Zapp, and Leo trying to find lunch, I'll be a bit disappointed but could accept it.

Ye, the Doug Hammer episode was like more than half a volume in the manga and they managed to adapt it in 16 minutes or so without omitting much.
The e-den fighters could be done in even less, depending on how long they want to drag the fights for. In the manga it's played out realistically, Klaus just destroying everyone, people barely even manage to grasp the situation, which makes sense because he's the leader of Libra and so on.
