Just finished the show. Budget certainly wasn't noteworthy, lots of low detail distance drawings and some sloppy scenes, but that's not even the tip of the iceberg.

It left me with that empty feeling that only a VN adaptation can bring. Harem elements, gimmicky trope characters, "good ending" that clearly had to be unlocked in the game. Just didn't feel like a real story with any thematic or emotional depth. Disappointed as hell.
>>
>>124713970
>Why did everything go so wrong?

Nothing went wrong other than the fact a group of people over hyped the shit out of it and wouldn't shut up about how good it was then /a/ hated said group and in term hated said anime.

The show itself isn't bad, the movie is a shitty cash grab though that doesn't even try to make itself make sense.

OP here. It's not even that, I paid little attention to the hype when I watched this. The show set itself up pretty well, it had an intriguing premise, charming dorky characters and a bit of suspense in parts. But all that potential was just thrown away in favor of VN bullshit.

Shit, I almost want to pick up the pen and show those hacks how to write a proper time travel story.

The exact moment when they went wrong is when they didn't use huke's art style

Or did Mayuri route

Bad adaptation of a very decent VN
They ruined the character designs, which was arguably the best part of Steins;Gate
>>
>>124714770
>I paid little attention to the hype when I watched this

So did I, the show isn't for everyone and I don't think there is a single show EVERYONE will like. But if you are willing to go in it without looking at it super seriously, it is pretty good and does a decent attempt at making the "time travel" in the S;G universe seem plausible.
>>
>>124715078
>MC who acts like an autistic cosplayer somehow surrounded by women who are mostly into him, who he then (thanks to plot convenience) has to resolve their personal issues one by one, Clannad style until he can save and get with the main girl.
>Writing is allergic to male-to-male interaction beyond lighthearted banter, leaving Okabe and fatman's friendship completely unexplored. And no other man can steal the MC's thunder, which is why fatman is a fat perverted otaku in the first place: filling the comic relief best friend role.
>Life or death situations lack tension, Okabe survives and escapes every time because VN-protagonist.
>An ending that was more about putting together carefully laid out bits of foreshadowing than delivering on its themes. A generic happy ending made for a visual novel.
>>
>>124715190
Have you seen Black Rock Shooter? Huke style doesn't work in animation
>>
>>124715850
>>Life or death situations lack tension, Okabe survives and escapes every time because VN-protagonist.
That has an explanation in-universe though, worldline convergence. Time travel after all, if he died in the course of the show/VN it becomes a paradox.
>>
>>124713970
Shouldn't have made the movie.

Other than that everything was fine.
>>
>>124716154
>the movie

Why was it so bad?
>>
>>124716198
It ignored the canon laws of time travel established in the main series to create pointless Kurisu fanservice.
>>
>>124715997
Doesn't make it any less immersion breaking. I didn't like the way they treated time travel anyway, the butterfly effect was pretty much brushed off completely for the sake of plot contrivance.
>>
I-I liked it
>>
>>124716303

The butterfly effect wasn't brushed off, it's the core of the plot. The only reason D-Mails do ANYTHING is because of the butterfly effect.
It's just two days is not a large enough of a scale.
>>
>>124715190
The VN was mediocre too. Decent characters in search of a worthwhile plot that never arrives.
>>
>>124716460
They do this wishy washy thing where all of Akihabara can change but not the group around Okabe? Because of that divergence number thing. The effects are extremely arbitrary and always work in favor of the plot.
>>
>>124716712

That's because of the metaphysics of the setting. Convergence means that even if the "details" change, the "result" is the same.
You can't say "b-but time travel don't work like that", but the truth of the matter is time travel doesn't work at all. It's setting dependent metaphysics, deal with it.

>>

I'm more hopeful because that draws from Epigraph, one of the best S;G side material
>>
>>124716712

>wow the writers made it so elements of the setting would drive the plot forward

I don't think you understand what the term "contrived" means. It's by no means a perfect plot, but at least nitpick on some of the real holes. Also, if you aren't prepared to accept baseline tropes of the medium (harems, autismal protags, etc) then you really shouldn't be here.

literally this.

if you can't suspend your disbelief for an anime, you shouldn't be watching anime.

i agree.
the show was fine.

the movie was completely unnecessary and a complete cash-in.

but let's be real here. can you blame them?
these are people trying to make money. let's be real here, none of us are supporting the industry; can you blame them for making money anyway they can?

Yes, we can. There were loads of side material that deserved animation, the movie was needless.

did you buy the DVD/BD release for the show? Did you buy the VN? Did you buy the BD release of the movie?

Regardless of your answers, they're trying to make money, and they're going to cash in on shit nip-taste and try and appeal to the biggest audience they can.

I agree with you on the matter, but honestly, unless you infuse cash into the industry like the rest of nip otakudom, there's not much justification you can have for blaming or getting butthurt about the choices of the industry.

i still get butthurt anyway

No, not really but I can still call it shitty. Like the premise was cool but why the fuck Krisu got the power to jump made no fucking sense. Hopefully the new thing coming out has a little more thought put into it.

Good premise, shit writing. But because it's baby's first scifi/haruhi-clone, it gets praised to high heaven by retards. The series by itself is merely disappointing, but coupled with the fanbase it becomes intolerable.
>>
>>124716712
>The effects are extremely arbitrary and always work in favor of the plot.

This. This is the main problem with the show. The plot has a bunch of arbitrary contrivances and rules to the time travel that on their own, make absolutely zero sense. Why in the fuck would timelines be based around the life of a single girl (who happens to be important to the MC) and nobody else? Obviously, because it fits the plot and it wouldn't work otherwise!

That's not how writing works you retarded ass author.

lol 4chins will never admit they only like anime/mango thats never been heard of. as long as its in the top 3000 in MAL theyll cuck themselves so hard theyll believe their own lies

To be fair, the anime is shit, I hate anyone who thinks Steins;Gate is the best thing ever just because they have seen the anime and because of all "dem ebin maymays".

I can understand the criticism.

I still like the Steins;Gate VN for what it is though, although I'd like to see the other Sci;Adv novels get translated into a language of the western world (preferably english).

Is Antimatter suppose to be S;G's tie-in for R;N?
>>
>>124723293
I think plot reason for the "Mayuri must die" timeline was that it was necessary to get Okabe to go back and do his part in the "kill/save Kurisu" timeline. Yes, it's still silly
>>
>>124723554

It make sense for their time machine to work being made from a telephone, a microwave, a television on the floor below it and a set of headphones?
Somehow people can accept that but take issue with any other premise?
I am in the twilight zone.
>>
>>124713970

Does the VN actually do justice to the characters? I've only watched the anime and while the storyline was good, I was sick to death of the entire cast by the end of it. Besides Okabe, the rest of the cast felt like cookie cutter cardboard cutouts of their archetypes and nothing more.
>>
>>124726861
Read it and judge for yourself, I greatkly enjoyed the VN and its characters.

And I didn't really cared about the minor characters in the anime.

So I did, don't know about you.
