I've been deep in 60s anime recently, anyone else?
>>124675123
Oldschool mahou shoujo in general is on of the most under appreciated things in anime.
>>124675123
Why do you watch it?
>>124675375
Because I'm interested in Japanese animation beyond the effect otaku had on it in the 80s.
Now think that Japanese animation is my favorite, because I find the animation the most interesting.
Are you into anime? or just otaku culture?
(Don't get me wrong, I love otaku anime, too.)
I really like the look of 60's-70's anime.
Probably because I watched speed racer with my dad as a kid and then cyborg 009
>>124675123
I didn't know the 60 had good waifu
>>124675123
Sally a shit
Sumire is the best girl
>>124675375
he has autism
>>124675123
I think that looks pretty neat.
>>124675123
Where do you even find the entire series? I read that it was the first mahou shoujo, but couldn't find a complete version on Nyaa, bakabt or animebytes.
Is it even possible to find most 60s anime nowadays?
>>124676062
>tumblr
>>124676181
Yes, and...?
>>124676224
>>124676277
What's the point in these fucking retarded gifs?
>>124675860
The Skaro Hunting Society is the only subber I've found.
He hasn't subbed the entire series, the rest I have to rely on my knowledge of Japanese.
I was surprised to learn that most 60s anime, including Astro Boy, is not subbed.
>>124676377
>I was surprised to learn that most 60s anime, including Astro Boy, is not subbed.
I was already aware of this. I also just realized that my moon is pretty decent now, and by the time I get around to watching it I won't need subs.
I looked for raws once and only found a few random episodes. Do you know where the whole batch can be found?
>>124675123
I watched the first ep of that. It was like someone made an entire series out of the Bewitched intro, and Bewitched is pretty dated and medicore in the first place so I didn't like it that much.
I have all of Anonymoose's stuff on RSS (greatly appreciated), but I still haven't watched any of it. Got a favorite?
>>124676436
Astro Boy?
Try searching Nyaa for the Japanese title.
(Or look for Anonymoose.)
>>124676502
No, I have Astro Boy. I meant Sally.
I'm gonna watch Animal Treasure Island tonight or tomorrow. Angel's Egg as well to round off Oshii's major work.
Also, I didn't "get" Gauche the Cellist. Someone explain it to me.
>>124676481
Recently /a/ was trying to rip Nihon Art Animation Eiga Senshuu, I recommend the whole dvd set, especially the independent animation from the 60s and 70s.
>>124676502
Nyaa has it all, Skaro Hunting Society has some selected episodes subbed.
>>124676481
Obvious answer is Wonder by Mirai Mizue. The best place to start is probably the Nihon Art set.
>>124676552
I remember that. The Yale-exclusive set that's like $1200? Glad someone pulled through so that we could watch it.

I hope you don't find this arousing.
Anyone who is a Hayao Miyazaki fan should watch Puss n' Boots and The Flying Ghost Ship.
Always had a soft spot in my heart for Gulliver's Space Travels. That giant black robot was a serious badass.
I am going to start watching one film/ova from the 30's everyday in may.
>>124675123
I've been watching as much 1980s anime as I can. My favorite so far is Maison Ikkoku.
I think any anime fan would love the Daicon IV opening.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nkc4eBCy3Sk
Been watching this lately.
>>124676635
It was at a few universities but whoever had access to Yale never turned up again, I paid a student from another university to do it.
>>124676481
Nihon Art Animation (most doesn't need subs but some volumes are heavier), Tezuka and Kawamoto are probably the best. L'animation indépendante japonaise has some good stuff, especially volume 2 with Midori-ko and Wonder.
>>124677336
Nagagutsu neko was cute. Not as appealing as Miyazaki films for adults though but there were some nice scenes, he did the chase at the end IIRC.
>>124676635
Wait, shit, really? I was there for the initial thread but I didn't think that someone actually delivered.
These threads are good containment.
>>124677771
For what?
>>124677889
Good containment for people who are actually interested in animation, not just otaku garbage like LNs, etc.
>>124677889
Pedophiles of course.
>>124676377
He's pretty based for doing these even though it's likely only a few will get completely done.
On that note, I just visited the blog for the first time in months and figured out that Discotek has picked up Dororo, Giant Gorg, and Orguss.
>>124677971
>not just otaku garbage like LNs, etc.
I saw someone comparing flavor of the month LN shit to Shakespeare today.
Let that sink in.
>>124677971
You use the word containment like its a bad thing. Like how /mlp/ serves as containment for the bronies.
Every once in a while I try to enjoy some pre-80's anime, but most of it seems to be pretty bad. Not saying there aren't exceptions, but really, the quality of anime skyrocketed during/after the 80's.
I've been rewatching Serial Experiments Lain recently, which counts I guess
>>124676377
>I was surprised to learn that most 60s anime, including Astro Boy, is not subbed.
Worse is that many don't have raws or the ones that exist look like shit. No one cares about these series so those who buy them don't bother uploading, which means anyone wanting to encode them better be ready to drop hundreds on DVDs (because that business model has carried onto re-releases of older series apparently).
Mushi Pro series are comparatively cheap but the other company that does remasters of old series charges about 20k yen on each box set which can be two or three per series depending on the length.
And of course there are other series that simply don't have full releases, even relatively popular ones like Doraemon (the first series was lost, second is incomplete on DVD) and Nihon Mukashibanashi (incomplete DVD release).
This was pretty good.
>>124677889
Fedora tippers.
>>124678022
I personally know something who thinks that LNs are comparable to actual literature. I'm not just talking about gay jap shit, like, he actual thinks that LNs are superior to legitimate authors, Japanese or otherwise.
Gosenzo-sama is the most beautiful Japanimation I have ever seen, after I finished it I cried a lot, and I usually don't even with sad stuff. Then I rewatched parts of it because the line delivery and music are amazing.
>>124676308
someone is literally that fucking pathetic
Its especially stupid considering modern anime does it so much better
>>124678051
I'd say television anime made a huge leap in quality by the 70s.
>>124678174
I don't think any form of media is inherently better than another, as all are limited only by their creators, but to say a run of the mill haremshit LN is better than classic literature from any country is fucking insane.
>>124678075
Recently I've wanted to buy vintage editions of Garo, does anyone else buy old manga?
>>124678264
This is how anime fans are now, even if they know Japanese they're still fucking retarded.
>>124678079
Isn't the first episode of that hentai?
>>124678231
True but they aren't very common nowadays.
>>124678260
Might be, to tell the truth I haven't seen many, if any (except for astro boy? Can't really remember) shows from before the 70's.
>>124678415
Hey man, I'm an anime fan.
I just happen to like everything, and judge each piece on its individual merits rather than preconceived notions. That said, all all the mediums and genres, LN fantasy action haremshit tends to be offensively bad.
>>124677993

I'm an anime fan too, I even watch most current SOL and harem anime, but I'm just trying to show how much fans have changed. They most likely won't even try anything discussed in this thread, even if they would like it.
>>124678677
>They most likely won't even try anything discussed in this thread, even if they would like it.
I have a friend who honest to God won't watch old anime. Half the time I think he says that just to fuck with me.
>>124678415
Whoa, don't lump me in with that retard.
>>124678452
Well, that's just my personal opinion. Ashita no Joe, Lupin III, Galaxy Express 999, Captain Harlock, and Rose of Versailles are amongst my favorite shows of all time.
>>124678763
I know (or knew) someone like that too. I think the criteria was more than 5 years old is too old.
>>124678802
My friend has gotten to the point where he'll say anything more than 2 seasons old is old shit.
I think the oldest thing he's ever watched was Gunbuster, and that was before he went full "Fuck your old anime" mode.
>>124678075
Ninpu Kamui Gaiden has BDs but I think they are out of print now and pretty expensive, and only a couple of the discs were ever ripped.
Along with Mach GoGoGo which is still in print I think it's the earliest series with a BD release so it's kind of sad that beyond the first two discs you can't find it without paying an inflated price for a secondhand copy.
