Well a Giftia essentially adopted a child and raised him solo for 3 years. I'm assuming their rights are probably pretty secure.
So far we haven't seen a single giftia that has disliked being with its master. I guess it remains to be seen whether or not they have the option to live independently if they don't like their owner or if the writers are just going to pretend ever single giftia ever always loves their lot in life.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust the company producing them. They go mad? What for? They haven't even stated the reason why they stop functioning. Is it a hardware limitation? Shitty programming? Are upgrades something nonexistent in this show? They become "wanderers" after passing the limit? Everyone without exception? Do they have an off button? Does the time continue ticking even when "sleeping" or deactivated? What if they're commanded to stay in a room and do nothing? Surely they cannot accumulate the same amount of memories like a normal unit in that state. So it probably isn't a memory limitation. My bet is that it's all a ploy to recycle old Giftias for money or for some other reason.
Also, the latest episode was beyond stupid. "Hey kid, we're here to take away your last family member and sole caretaker, but hey, at least we've made you this delicious cake to remember us by! Isn't life grand!?" Like, holy fucking shit, why is that their priority? They're leaving an elementary schooler alone. What the fuck? That's beyond irresponsible.
