It's been a long time since I read it but I think her parents died and the bad guys wanted to make her the next blue king. Her aunt though knew Mikoto so eventually Homra got involved, then lots of shit happened and she joined officially in the end.

Her parents died in a car crash or something and she went to live with her aunt. Dr. Evil, Gold clansman with healing powers was illegally experimenting on Strains in secret in a facility borrowed from Blues. He found out about Anna, had her aunt mindwiped to forget about her, and kidnapped her away to his lab-dungeon. Anna was resonating with the Slates via her Strain power, and Dr. Evil wanted to make her into the next Blue King (there wasn't one at that time). Pain seemed to enhance Anna's powers, so he tortured her in numerous ways daily and then healed her back to 100% with his own powers. Slate obviously rejected her becoming Blue given she was destined to be Red, causing more pain. Mikoto et al. saved her because he knew her from back when she was with her aunt, but I don't remember how they found out about it.
