Frankly, she isn't normal. Her strange blindness to the paranormal aside, she hasn't aged and she couldn't have eaten anything either; nobody had seen her leave for possibly months since the gardener only comes once a month, and skipped this one while she hasn't been seen in the previous ones.
I imagine she's sort of like Kuro, only not as obvious. Possessed turn white when they die, as seen from the corpse the villagers found in winter, so she probably isn't getting whatever she needs to sustain herself.

Agreed. Particularly given the maps and extras, it seems clear the author has done quite a bit of world building here and has a ton of background stuff in mind even if most of it only shades the main story a bit and never gets directly referenced. The best stories do that, keeps everything logically self-consistent. Somato appears to have this whole plot worked out in a fair amount of detail, rather then just sort of winging it. So I think we'll see the main points get resolved as things come to a head.
My real hope actually is that we see some more stuff about the rest of the world and what the hell is going on. We know there's civilization out there, whole cities even, but from earlier hints monsters aren't just a town problem, it's affected lots. Maybe not everything? They don't seem to like rivers either though given the map. I think Kuro is going to wrap up well, but I kind of hope someday some of the rest gets put to use also. If Somato did all that world building just for this well I can respect that, but it'd be cool if it gets further developed subsequently too.
What I would give to see this animated.
I think it could work really well as 3-4 minute episodes.

1. Monsters can in fact be hurt by physical weapons to some extent, or at least their existing forms can (and presumably that's good enough at least temporarily). So if a city had a big clearing around it and continually just shot any invaders that might work, particularly if combined with moats or something. Though the problem there is that tiny birds/animals might easily slip in, and then infect bigger animals and then you're fucked anyway. So I don't think non-barrier repulsion alone is sufficient.
2. Cold. Apparently cold fucks with them, and go far enough north or high enough and there are places that are pretty permanently cold, and conveniently don't have much animal life either relatively. Maybe all the big cities have moved into the far north, and these towns are outposts that help supply food and materials in exchange for tech and other support from the northern industrial areas. Equator would presumably be abandoned.
Or perhaps the cities just have huge flower growing operations or something, assuming my guess about water based on the map is wrong.
