I understand his choices because they closely resemble mine. Mostly the things he doesn't like are pretty bland in an imaginative sense. People like me watch anime to have their imaginations deeply involved. Things like Baccano, NHK (I liked the manga, but my standards are different in that medium), and Spice and Wolf just don't satisfy my desires. I don't find them particularly interesting on a level I would say Gundam Wing, No Game No Life, and Cowboy Bebop, for example.
Don't know what he doesn't like about Katanagatari, though. I liked it - admittedly I only watched it once.

See I have no standards for manga because I have read next none and am self admittedly completely ignorant. It is something I would want to get into but just find myself bored and drifting away from then never going back regardless of what I have read so far. I don't really have anything massively against Katanagatari but it just seems like something I would never choose to put on a 3x3 of my own.
