Berserk was always a sad and fucked over story. That doesn't quite work on a horror level.
Who needs horror anime when Japan already produces some of the most horrifying comics, video games, and music there is. I don't care if their ability doesn't happen to extend to cartoons, horror storytelling is best in either read or interactive media anyways.
