I'll take it you've never browsed there for more than a few hours a day. Although /m/ isn't typically as elitist as /a/ is when it comes to anime, this can't be entirely seen as a good or a bad thing. It has plenty of threads dedicated for shit mecha shows, especially when they're airing. The preference for mecha discussion for gundam over other older mecha shows is another example of how /m/ preffers one type of discussion over the other. I can't even remember the last time I saw a sdmf, dancouga, sun dougram, giam, or daimos thread. Their preference is entirely circled around Gundam, macross, votoms, getter robo, or general go nagai. Which implies the "good" of what I was talking about, or the Cross ange, captian earth, Ore Twintail, Pacific rim, or xenoblade generals that flood the board with garbage. Being the Evil.

The movies themselves are just recaps (duh), and if you haven't seen the TV series before the movies, they're going to look awful with you with the weird pacing and jumping through events and they're probably just going to put you off Gundam altogether. I though it was mainly Aldnoah they hated for it's blatant attempts to bait in people that normally wouldn't watch a mecha series by making sure to staff up on and cast everybody that's been popular within the last few years or so rather than you know.....just make a show that's actually functionally good and has a clear direction and cast with motives and development as well as get people that actually know what they are doing and have experience in the genre instead of a guy who's prior directing credits are things like Girls Bravo, Ga-Rei Zero and some Type/Moon shit and a writer whose most well known work to date is Boku no Pico.
The fact that show turned out like it did is little surprise to anyone who has actually seen more than just Code Geass, Valvrave, Guilty Crown, Gurren Lagann and maybe Macross Frontier or Gundam 00 before which is maybe less than 5% of the audience that actually stuck around to the end.

Any Mecha we should look out for in the rest of 2015? We just got off the Cross Ange ride which I love but a lot of /a/ and /m/ hate it. Well those Code Geass movies are something and G-Reco just ended which a lot of people hate too but I'm going through the franchise right now to find out why.
Why is Mecha so fun? Also will we ever get a new season of Kenzen Robo Daimidaler? I fucking loved it.
