Eastern writing style tend to differ from Western writingm In the case of LN that favors character narrative, subtlety, inference from vagueness, simplified but descriptive writing. Not to mention the obvious difference in languages that have no equivalent or the difference in culture.
If you can't enjoy LN writing, then it isn't for you. Stick to mediums that requires less thinking on your part then.
Official translations are pretty bad too. The NHK light novel has so many spelling and grammar errors in it that I'm surprised it got published.

Birdway's line about Touma's core not being changed even after seeing the end of the world was like the summary of what Kamachi wanted to express. NT10 made a big deal about how everyone else lost to their fear, anger or hatred and those people barely even faced a fraction of the suffering Touma did. Touma literally faced billions of hellworlds and he still decided to understand and help the one who put him through it. Touma's not a hypocrite who'd abandon his ideals after merely a billion hellworlds.
In return, Othinus who Touma chose to understand reciprocated by giving up her own dream in order to restore Touma's old world even if it will make her the enemy of the world. In fact, NT10 was them repeatedly wanting to sacrifice themselves for the other with Othinus wanting Touma to abandon her but Touma refusing every time. It was the understanding born from mutual brokenness which led to them not wanting to hurt the other person. It concluded with Othinus wanting to kill herself fighting Touma so Touma can end up being the hero again but Touma refused it yet again.
It wasn't Stockholm syndrome that people keep parroting because Stockholm syndrome misses the point in how Touma's actions were portrayed to be a sign of strength instead of weakness. He may have suffered residual trauma as shown in NT12 but that's natural. It'd be cheap if Touma came out of it without any damage and Othinus' talk helped snapped him out of some of his worries.

Plenty of people edited the old volumes. The current PDFs are far different than what was originally translated. The problem is the fact that there are way too many errors in the translation, since they were translated from Chinese.
Combine that with the fact that you can't find OT on BT anymore means that you have to wait until the YP version comes out and it integrated into the PDFs.
