I haven't watched this yet, but I can assume that we perceive ticking of the metronome when we see its position at the edge and not at the middle due to the fact that the speed of sound is finite.
If we assume that the speed of light is the same as in the real world, and take in account the BPM of the metronome, we can calculate the speed of sound in the anime universe via sound delay relative to metronome's arrow position.

Next week Tubacabra is going to ask Kumiko if she thinks Shuichi is also an ikemen. Kumiko will pretend like she's never given it a thought, as usual.
Of course there's some drama because Tubacabra confesses to Shuichi, but although he says he's happy about her feelings, he can not accept because he says he's in love with another girl (Kumiko).
Kumiko, who is never true to her emotions (unless she accidentally blurts it out), doesn't want any conflict and acts like she still doesn't like Shuichi, although that's obviously not true. She never ends up confessing and changing the way she acts, and eventually Shuichi starts to fall for Tubacabra instead.
The story is basically an analogy for change through music and human emotions. Kumiko sticks to her ways and just goes to the flow (sticking to the ufo), while Tubacabra, who has decided to embark on change and development, wins the Shuichi bowl.
