I hate to break it to you anon, but all light novels read like shitty underage fanfiction. I used to translate them for Seven Seas Publications and holy shit. Kara no Kyokai had unintelligible sentence structure at times, and outright contradicted itself at others.
There were bits in VAMP! that I had to ask Japanese friends to read because they made no sense, and they couldn't understand what the sentence meant either.

I know, light novels are shit, I get that. I still think there are a few that stand out, just past legible, into a tier where there's some attempt at being a book instead of a picture book.
