Every time a monster dies I'm annoyed. The bodies are supposed to be left in tact as corpses until you remove the magic crystal from them. That's a huge important plot point, because supporters primary function is to hold stuff and do that during battle.

In fairness, I recall that in Ragnarok Online, high-level parties would often bring support blacksmiths for their AoE pickup ability, because otherwise you didn't have enough time between respawns and 20+ mob pulls to loot all the shit on the ground around you.
So while the anime is butchering the source material (which we already knew), it doesn't necessarily preclude support being useful, especially in a world where that loot is your living expenses, and where dying while scrambling for the rare drop in the middle of a fight means you're actually dead.

They still have meaning in that they exist to carry all the loot. However now an agility-based fighter, even while solo, can easily pick up loot during battle. They wouldn't need to worry about back tracking while kiting because they can just swoop by. It just removes huge important parts of the strategy, world, characters, etc.
When people go on expeditions, they bring blacksmiths as well to repair armor and weapons, and cooks to make food. I'm not sure if the anime will cover that though.
