So the promotional material always pairs up the main couple.
If there's any more than that, it's either haremshit or you got some shitty love triangle. Outside of very rare occasions, you're gonna be dealing with a show that cannot balance its love triangle with other elements, so the second it even broaches the topic the show's momentum hits a brick wall.
So any romance show worth giving your attention to has clearly defined couples. So what's the fucking point of 12 episodes? There's three thresholds you have to cross. Catalyst for attention, realize their feelings, and reciprocate. Literally everything else is just filler.
Sakura Trick (unintentionally) defies that, crams the first two into palatable flashbacks and completes the third in the first few minutes of episode one.
So what's the rest of the series about? Two people trying every day to make their relationship better, even when they're already madly in love. Haruka does everything she can to spend more time with Yuu, helping her study or just finding excuses to be affectionate. They're constantly checking each other's boundaries, toying with their likes and dislikes and for how bratty Yuu is, she knows where to draw the line and reel Haruka back in. The only romantic obstacle is treated as a joke(and obviously has her own girlfriend in line). The two leads are quite candid and animated.
For all anime's predilections towards hamhanded romance, they sure don't like focusing on the fun parts.
