OP here, I recently just watched the entire series and EoE after not doing so for years. It's pretty good. I enjoyed it, and it has some pretty interesting things. There are a lot of things I couldn't fully parse about the story, and unless someone else helps to explain it to me, I'm probably gonna have to rewatch the ending of EoE a couple times.

Not immediately, at the very least. Every character in Evangelion has their own host of issues and problems that prevent them from connecting with others. That said, even one healthy character might have been capable of helping the others with their own set of mental traumas. Though I really can't say for certain.

Misato tries to connect to him through sex, which is how she is able to feel connected, but Shinji pushes her away because that disgusts him.
