It is the other way around. There does not need to be reason to be realistic because that is the status quo. There needs to be reason for something to be unrealistic. Of course being unrealistic can be totally ok or even better than being realistic, but that unrealism needs to serve a purpose. You do realize that they have only introduced three main characters in the first two episodes, right? Of course the dialogue is going to be lacking. Only three people are interacting and the two best friends and the girl just met. Top it all off they're awkwardly in love.

Being animated gives the directors the ability to exaggerate things like having a dude be twice the size of everyone else, or being able to lift steel beams. In fiction most everything is blown out of proportion, and in this medium even more so.

Those would be lightweight home construction steel beams. They are nowhere the thickness, size, and weight of commercial or industrial construction steel beams. As for lightweight beams in a neighborhood, I have seen a lot of new 2 or 3 story homes use steel beams in them. It's a growing trend in new higher quality homes and very tall ones which is what japan has (i've walked by five story residence homes in some tokyo areas). I see them used in apartment construction too but that's required by law (building codes).

Long Haul truck drivers falling asleep is lot harder now with GPS. Time, distance, speed limit are checked and it's pretty easy to see if someone is driving more than the legal limit. The law checks driving logbooks as well. There was a news investigation show a year or so back which showed how one company tried to fake out the log inspection by have TWO sets of gps and a hidden power switch for the main GPS. Thus, they generated fake logs. However, the state has been putting in automated license plate readers and so it has built up a pretty good database database wow wow wow. Consulting that database revealed a discrepancy in truck travel times.
