It doesn't matter if it's used for distant shots if those shots are still close enough for the CGI to be clearly visible. Seeing the artystyle and design of the characters change from 1 scene to the next is always awful and never looks good. If you can tell that it's CGI in an othwerwise hand-drawn show through normal watching then it was a poor use of CGI.

I'm actually really enjoying this.

Subaru wearing Minato's jacket and waiting for him, and after it we will get some twists

So let me see if I got the exposition right:

Each of the girls actually live in their own alternate timelines. But when the alien crash-landed on the planet it somehow threw time-space out of whack. So each of the girls came to the one, same world. Or perhaps the worlds merged together somehow. This is why Subaru's and Aoi's backstories don't match (in Subaru's world Aoi moved away, in Aoi's world Subaru moved away), and also why each girl had the same seat in class. I am willing to bet that once the alien fixes his ship and the time-space continuum gets back in order, the girls would be forced to say goodbye as they go back to their own worlds.

They didn't really move away, they're still in the same town they just go to different schools. At first I interpreted that episode 1 scene as them both going to different high schools after middle school and not talking to eachother anymore and blaming the other, but some alternate timeline thing seems likely after this episode.

Aoi was friends with that one chick in Subaru's original world, but in this one where they're all together it's like Aoi doesn't even know that chick anymore.

This is developing better than I expected. The first episode was already better than the ONA in most places, but this episode was nice new material over the ONA. The best part for me was them getting the club room though. I can't wait for them to have the cute and cozy and candy-like room from the ONA again.

I need more Yellow doing silly transformations though. And more of purple's stone-faced chuuni antics.
