Why does Japan portray giant robots to be better than tanks when in reality tanks are better than giant robots?
>>123932619
Do tanks fucking fly in space? No?
Checkmate atheists.
>>123932619
What a fucking ignorant retard
Have you ever seen a tank win against a giant robot?
>>123932619
Do tanks fucking move at mach speeds? No?
Checkmate atheists.
do you even AT field son?
>>123932619
Tanks aren't very cool and can't use swords and drills and shit.
Nukes>everything else.
>>123932784
>not flying a space tank
>>123932916
nukes are probably the most useless weapon in the world. You can never use except in the absolute worst case scenario.
>not respecting the robot
>>123932965
Actually, it means they're working when you don't have to use them.

>Why does Japan portray giant robots to be better than tanks when in reality tanks are better than giant robots?
Watch MS Igloo ep2 and MS Igloo 2 ep2/3

While i agree that humanoid robots are dumb when put on a real life battlefield (stability issues, tall frame making an easy target ect.) legged tanks might actually be superior to treaded ones. Pic related.
More mobile, able to scale obstacles that would stop treaded tanks, similar frame height when crouching. The only reason we do not have them yet is that treaded tanks obviously are easier to construct.
The other line of thought i could see replacing tanks is exoskeletons, since they are not much larger than the average human while greatly enhancing his carrying capabilities and possibly adding quite a bit of sturdiness.

Can tanks fire lasers like Gundam? No
>>123932619
can a tank pierce the heavens?? no?
then get out

>Tanks aren't very cool

Drifting isn't very impressive. I can drift using my tricycle.
>>123932619
Can tanks pull these sick moves?
>>123933118
If it couldn't survive an itano circus its not cool enough.
>>123933198
>tricycle
Are you 8?
>>123933252
22 actually. Tricycles are for real men.
>>123932784
Isn't spaceships just flying tanks?
>>123932619
Is there a Demonbane tank among tanks? No.
>>123933318
Yes. And people are walking tanks and cat is meowing tank and omelet is delicious tank.
>>123932619
Humanoid robots are just an extension of an artist's feelings of inferiority, feeling the need of a powerful exterior shell to compensate. It's also a lot easier to express intent with a human shape.
They're also cool.
>2015
>not being a Gundam
>>123932619
Tanks are sitting duck plus haven't you seen transformers they can turn into tanks and other cool shit
You just need some giant tanks, OP. You could convince everyone if the tanks were as big as the robots. Or bigger than the robots.
>>123933205
>all that cg
>just to make it look like plastic garbage with bright colors
jesus christ how shitty
Happy now?
>>123933743
That's a game.
>>123933831
That qualifies more as a robot than a tank.
>>123933831
Congrats, you managed to find the one thing that combines all the negative points of mechas and tanks into one neat package. Tall frame, low mobility with treads, looks fucking retarded.
>>123932619

When was the last time you saw a tank fight a giant robot in reality?

Don't affect tanks.
Do we need to have this thread every day?
>>123934544
Why are the Tachikomas such heroes;_;
Why are some of the people here so autistic?
People like giant robots because they're cool as hell, not because of their real life practicality.
>>123932619
So you could post the same thread over and over along with filling it with the same arguments post for post every time. Wish I could report this thread and have a mod 404 it.

Legged tanks would be a maintenance nightmare, and unless you've got extremely powerful servo motors in the legs, they'll be even slower than normal tanks. Add to that that the feet of the tank will have a significantly higher ground pressure than treads, and you run into the same reason we don't have wheeled vehicles with heavy armor- they're more likely to sink into the mud than anything else.
>>123932619
Watch the intro portion to Gundam The Origin or MS Igloo. Really anything that contains the early one year war period. Mobile Suits are just really versatile.
In short though they're decently armored, large and well equipped with weaponry but not so large as to hamper mobility and make them an easy target for battleship cannons. They have arms and legs for maneuvering and operating in a variety of environments and can just pull up right beside a battleship, fire a bazooka into it and jet off before the crew even has much of a chance to react. This is why you always see ships scrambling mobile suit teams to intercept other approaching mobile suit teams and hanging back to provide covering fire. If a mobile suit gets up next to a battleship it's essentially game over.
Also tanks can't jump ridiculous fucking high like most mobile suits can which is more handy than one might think on the ground when you need to escape a bad situation.

>Why does Japan portray giant robots to be better than tanks when in reality tanks are better than giant robots?
I don't know, have you seen giant robots used in a fight?
>>123932619
anime isn't reality

Unlike humanoid mechas and the problems that come with that, all those points can probably be solved by superior tech. Ground pressure could be solved by having 6-8 legs as well as lighter materials, wear and tear through use of hightech materials like carbon nanotubes or frictionless bearings, same with servos.
Just because its not feasible with our current technology it does not mean it would not be feasible 50 years from now.
Still, my money is on exoskeletons, since the US army is actively researching in that direction already and since tanks are less and less important in the asymetric battlefields we are currently facing. Exoskeletons on the other hand would excel in urban battlefields, since they couple a small frame that is able to enter most houses with potentially a sensor suite and heavy weaponry.
