It's still pretty niche. The franchise thrives on fan influence (making songs, artwork), though it can stand to be bigger. That said, she is still only a side character. As for how she acts...it's all speculation on the fan's part. Some show her dominant; others a little on the submissive side. While I'd like for something more canon, I know it'll never happen because of what both the fans and her makers want.

I'd say its pretty big. 19 LN volumes, going on 20 by the end of the year, with the third season of the adaptation currently airing and a fourth season all but inevitable, as well as a manga adaptation. They both initially had reliability problems and didn't succeed in their original roles, but became quite successful once they were assigned to other tasks. The Typhoon is also a big, heavy and intimidating plane with a ton of firepower which simply suits her, much more than agile lightweights like the 109.Additionally, its rockets were quite inaccurate and it was involved in a lot of friendly fire accidents.
