Hey not native English speakers of /a/ do you watch anime with English subs or your native languages subs?
>>
>>123697789
English subs, my local subs are usually awkward
>>
>>123698006
What language?
>>
You do realize that non-English subs are shitty retranslations from already shitty English translation, right?
>>
>>123697789
I watch anime in both languages (Spanish and English). However, sometimes the Spanish subtitles don't include parts of dialogue or are just google translations, so I prefer watching them in English whenever possible
>>
>>123698105
>implying
>>
English is not my native language but it's better than my native language
I just use english sub because I'm too lazy to dl subs seperately
I am currently learning japanese so I don't have to bother with subs at all and enjoy the picture itself.
>>
>>123698213
>I am currently learning japanese

If you are willing to learn it good luck lad. How long do you think it will take?
>>
>>123698105

If English only plebs are already plebs, what does that make people who rely on translations of English translations?
>>
Im surprised that spanish subs groups are faster than the english ones
>>

English because I don't trust the fansubbers of my country a single bit.
>>
>>123697789
It depends,if the show is popular enough, i'll watch in my native language however if it's some obscure anime then i'll probably watch in english, since the subs in my language will most likely be shit.
>>
>>123698391
What's your native language?

>>123698392

I've been watching anime so long that I got grammar down naturally. I only lack in vocab and I presume in a few months I'll be good.

actually i also set all my consoles and my computer in english, as well as all my softwares
i also talk in english unless im talking to a family member

English. I can learn new words that way too.
>>
>>123697789
I always watch it with english subs.
French subs are fairly popular, yet they aren't really the ''French I speak/am familiar with''
With all the vidya, LN,TV and school books in english, I read and watch much more in English anyway.
>>
Is English easy to learn?
>>
I watch anime in my language(spanish) only for some Blu-ray releases since the are few good fansubs and they are slow as hell. If you want yo watch something of the season you only have shitty translations, Google translations, bleeding eyes orthography so it's better to watch the english releases.
>>

Most of the time I watch anime with my native language subs, but when I can't find any I go for english subs.
When I watch it with english subs, I have to concentrate a little more on the subs so I can't enjoy the anime itself as much.
It's just a little bit though
>>
>>123698822
Idk his trips seem trustworthy
>>
>>123698736
It's easy because of the constant exposure that the language receives.Movies,TV shows, music, pop culture, almost everything is in english therefore it won't be so hard if you put at least some effort in learning.
Although there's a shitload of people that don't know how to speak english in my country
>>
>>123697789
English subs, much easier to find. French people are often said to be weeaboos but their fansub/translation scene is dead. Or at least was last time I checked which was over 10 years ago, haven't bothered since.

>>
>>123699518
Just looked around a bit, the french scene still looks very scattered, with each group picking just a few stuff to sub or translate; often late by a few seasons in some cases and if it's still the same as 10 years ago, lots of dropped projects never picked up again.
>>
Wow, 4chan has a surprisingly high number of Brazilians.
>>
>>123699586
Now really, the thing is that what makes me mad when watching something in spanish is when they use some specific word from a region that not everybody knows. I have this conversation with some anon on a panda thread about how doujin and h-manga translations in spanish sound fucking awful for the same reason.

>>123699724
I'm not. In fact, spanish is one of the most beautiful languages, but when it gets properly used, also is really hard to learn, specially if english is your native language.

I think that our subs were much better in the past,Brazil lost its interest in anime with time, thanks to the fact that all channels stopped transmitting them. There's no more anime on Cartoon and adult swim was banned from the country(thanks to politics),Animax was transformed into SP and all other channels related to anime were bankrupt.

I have a hard time believing that. I've been in France for like a month, and they had a hard time understanding my French.

Mexican born and raised.
English subs, english tl manga, hentai, books, news, everything to be honest besides local town news and things made in spanish of course (books mostly).

Spanish subs fucking suck, not so much because of the language (although everything I get from the internet that isn't in english feels awkward as fuck to read) but more so due to the incredibly bad organization.
Streams, terrible encodes, terrible editions, etc. Everything's bad.
I'd rather use commie than a spanish sub.

To be honest, the english language is the best for anything related to getting new info/things... especially on the internet, so I don't see the reason to use another language unless your english comprehension skills sucks balls.

>checking the panda translations
>[muffled huehuehue in the background]

I think I'll start reading whatever's translated to portuguese just to laugh at what the porra is going on. Some things just don't work. Like the word rape - in english, it rolls nicely off the tongue and you can put in almost anything, as well as inserting into not-quite-insults to yell at mic. Speaking the equivalent in portuguese? It's quite taboo. People prefer to use euphemisms and beat around the bush.

Also, most of those descriptions (like "mixing our dripping juices") just don't work, it sounds so dull when translated. If you try to Woosley it to the closest thing we have, you end with a Brasileirinhas script.
>>
>>123701175
So, now that I've confirmed you were from Québec, I can tell you a few things, first the québécois accent can be overwhelming to native french people. Also, native french and québécois developed differences over time, if you've followed the thread is pretty much the same for brazilian, portuguese and spanish people. Biggest one being your stubborn and forceful translation of english words that were integrated into native french a long time ago. Saying you speak a more correct french, I'd say, could be, but at some point, it should be considered a different language than french.

Don't know why you guys can't do it
Anime is 100% listening so you can easily get used to grammatical structure from only watching anime. While it's true it won't be enough for writing japanese it's quite possible if your aim is to only watch anime without subs. Not to mention anime has some of easiest japanese possible.
While it's true it won't be enough for writing japanese

Not BR or Portuguese, but it seems he's saying "de aquí a una semana, él será comprado por una hacienda de ganados. Probablemente por la Friboi."

Aparentemente, en el portugués, la sílaba -na- del latín 'ganatus' desapareció. I had to look that word up in the dictionary to find out what it meant.

I agree with the different languages.
It's awful to see how most companies use Europe Spanish translations for American Spanish uses.
It's quite common to see this in the movies. And it's awful. I've seen people leaving the theater because the movie was in Europe Spanish.
The accent and speed is just too different. Even with American Spanish, there are so many countries, so many tones and speeds, and colloquial words. You can't call it all just "Spanish".

According to the wikipedia page of the palatal nasal:
>There is no contrast of [nj ~ nʲ ~ n̠ʲ ~ ɲ] for /ni̯/ in Brazilian Portuguese,[24] though /n/ generally palatalizes before any /i/ (including [i̯]). As with /ɲ/, the cluster may nasalize a preceding vowel (especially if stressed), or vocalize to a nasal palatal approximant, most often in stigmatized registers.[25][26]

>Simultaneous alveolo-palatal and dento-alveolo-palatal.[6] Often or generally intervocalically replaced by a nasal palatal approximant, its original sound,[11][12] in Brazil and Africa (but not after a consonant or pause, where such phoneme is loanword-only). See Portuguese phonology

/ɲ/ is the IPA symbol for the sound of the Spanish ñ, the Catalan ny, the French and Italian gn, the Czech ň and the Albanian nj.

Yeah, that's the comparision I'm making. Not even online we do it. Not even in gangsta muhfugga rap. Not even on mic raging on LoL/DotA (even when foaming with rage, most people will subconsciously indirectly imply the act without using the word itself. It sounds that ugly).

From personal experience, even when it's unavoidable, I've seen knowledgeable people intentionally mispronounce the word (saying "estrupo" instead of "estupro", the first one is easier to murmur and faster to say) so they get done with not-quite-saying it ASAP. The word for rape in portuguese has zero memetic value.

>>123701975

IMO, it has its uses. I'm not exactly rich (most BRs aren't/soon won't be anyway thanks to Lady Ewok's efforts), so I have to share my internet. Considering no one in the network has a HD-capable monitor, using that thing doesn't hog my resources as much as torrenting an assload of HQ whatevers.

I by myself I am not watching anything now (last time I watched was just on Anitube - when I found it was a thing and to check how it was. Good enough to not need to rub it on others, I really enjoy the bandwith they don't use).

Now, now, if you show me someone who has a fully loaded battlestation, fiber Internet and still watching on Anitube... yeah, plebs gonna pleb.

I was caught once in a linguistic congress, where they were discussing language barriers. They had brazilians, a sample of almost every southamerican country (so the majority spoke spanish) Central America, Spain and, because why not, italians.

I was there to fix stuff, but I kept listening what was going on.

From what I gathered from experts, most brazilians can understand spanish well enough to watch their shows without much trouble (I live close to Paraguay and Argentina, so I get their air channels and watch them with no trouble. Mostly to watch Simpsons or El Chavo). The same happens but to a lesser degree to spanish people listening portuguese (apparently their goal was to figure how much they understood. A rough, unscientific estimate was given "a brazilian understands 70-80% of spanish and mostly knows what's going on. A spanish-speaker understands roughly 50% and might get confused). Exceptions were brought into the table - "Pure" or "hardcore" spanish (Spain, Mexico, Peru) is somewhat hard to understand for some reason. For every example they could and would bring a live example - I couldn't understand a mexican as well as I am used to argentinians and paraguayans.

The exception was paulistas (São Paulo brazilians). For some reason, the paulistas couldn't understand a thing from the spanish people. But bring the italians to the table, they understand each other enough to establish bidirectional communication. Cue a italian telling a joke, and just the italians and paulistas laughing, then the spanish/plebrazilian audience being asked if they understood anything.

I had experience with paulistas asking me to "translate" what was just spanish accent. I only know peruvian is hard because of a poliglot who taught the "pizza test" to confirm your fluency in a given country. He says Peru is the only spanish-speaking country where he failed to order a pizza.

Russian subs are usually Funi subs tier and you'll have to wait longer for them. I'm watching in English mostly because they are faster. And because it's easier to discuss it later here: I don't have to think about names and terms translation into English. If the series are not airing anymore I'll watch it in my own language.

You can pick up the basic rules of conjugations, but you're not likely to remember how they apply to any given verb in the event that you might need to use one. As for just wanting to watch anime without subs, that would involve so much memorization that you'd need several years and you'd still miss words. Learning it for that reason alone is a waste of time.

It's a common misconception that you can learn anything substantial about the language from anime. Even with hundreds and hundreds of hours logged, you won't be able to read or write nor will you be able to speak or comprehend anything beyond basic sentences. Anyone who has gone beyond the beginner stages of learning Japanese (read: a tiny proportion of would-be learners) would be able to tell you this.
