How is it forced if that's the story of the show.

That scene looked rotoscoped.

it's the key animator's face in the mirror.

>new hired worker doesn't even know what his company does
>barely know what Giftia are, even if will have th work on and with it
>the company doesn't even provide him basic psychologic and management training even if these are key skills for this job
>didn't even learn that in school obviously
>the company hires 16 years old workers

Well, I like the pitch, but the writing is stupid as fuck
>>
>>123611944
>company sells drama-generating androids
>>
>>123611944
You didn't pay attention enough.

MC wasn't meant to be there, he only got into the company because of a recommendation. The staff didn't even know about him, so of course, they couldn't provide shit for him.
>>
There was nothing forced about it, it is what it is.

If you thought it was sad, k cool. It is essentially someone being taken away from their family. It at least that's one interpretation.

If you see it as a product being returned, that's also fine.

It doesn't try to push either of these more than another. Every reaction by the characters is one that's totally natural.
>>
>>123611973
>>company sells drama-generating androids
>while the state hasn't regulated shit

So if they run out of lifespan, their personality disintegrates, and I presume they're going to start blowing everything up. You'd think the state would allow the forcible retrieval.
>>
>>123612183
All we know is the memories start fucking up. No reason to believe become hostile.

The reason it's important to retrieve then is to maintain the illusion of a family member that this Giftia has given them for the past 9 some years, and not fuck their emotions to hell
>>
This reminds me of Angel Beats with how obvious the premise is set up to generate drama.

That's not how robots work.
The concept of 9-year limit is technologically retarded.
They could also install some program, so they will return by themselves before the destruction date.

Go enjoy your SAO.
>>
>>123612234
Besides, what if a Giftia owner *wants* the soulless drone they're meant to be?
I mean, mindless eternally young sex slave, anyone?

WHY
DON'T
THEY
BACKUP
THE
HARD
DISK
>>
>>123612323
Because then they'd need to relearn everything again.

Seems their software's so shit that it implodes with a certain amount of memories, doesn't seem to be a hardware limitation.
>>
>>123612277
If you're gonna reject the premise of a fucking anime then you've already lost.

LoGH is shit too because we haven't come close to that level of space exploration right
>>

>>

>Software's so shit

So they have AI that can replicate emotions, but they can't write a script to copy files from one disk to another?

>>123612369
Okay, then back it up to Google Drive or Dropbox, or does Android not have WiFi either?

>>123612376
Doesn't work, because people would be less likely to want to go through such a painful separation again

If this is true, it's all not-forced drama, since there are actual real economic values at work.

But we've had 0 mentions of economics so far. This isn't going to end up well at this rate.
>>
>>123612376
If that were the case then they would have developed physical flaws so they would have to periodically move the memories in a new body. That would be a much easier way to generate shekels.
>>
>>123612423
>>123612411
>>123612450

hence the "promotional" compensations to keep them hooked, like that OS upgrade.
>>
>>123612450
>easier
It's about being cheap, not easy. The team seems seriously tiny and has been downsized multiple times. Easier that than having specialized maintenance workers familiar with trade secrets.
>>
I don't understand why people try to extrapolate from real world technological capabilities to sci-fi anime if the sci-fi anime doesn't try to justify themselves in the context of real world technology.

Synthetic souls are too far off from modern day technology. Maybe if they stated the reason was running out of hard drive space, then it would be pretty silly.

Plus we haven't even seen what happens after the time limit.
>>
I should know better than to expect /a/ to know anything about anime after you all thought Glasslip was really deep but jesus christ

I'm just saying that premise has too many contradictions to make proper drama. That's why people here call it forced.

>>123612376
Yeah, this show reminds me about how people are forced to change their iPhones just because the software is out of date.

>>
>>123612488
>I don't understand why people try to extrapolate from real world technological capabilities to sci-fi
Because any good sci-fi is believable and reasonably detailed about why shit works.
>>
>>123611630
Agreed. It's just a sappy farewell scene, this shit has been done countless times before and it's not like we were given any time to become invested in the characters. And on top of that the nips already said ep 1 was going to be sad, so the fact that this basic shit actually made people here cry is goddamn pathetic.

>>123611663
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgHNtzxO0y8
>>
>>123612495
There aren't any contradictions, you're imposing artistry conditions that the premise doesn't give itself. That's your fault.
>>
>>123612323
I assumed its because the robots emotions are based on a algorithm and eventually that algorithm can receive to many inputs. Backing up the hard disk wouldn't solve the problem because there would still be to many inputs into the algorithm. I overwhelmed algorithm would also explain why memories are lost first as it starts to overwrite old stuff to make way for the new inputs. I would then assume it would be possible for it to overwrite actual code which would lead to the robots malfunctioning.
>>
>>123612524
Welp, there goes about more than 90% of anime.
>>
>>123612494
>after you all thought Glasslip was really deep but jesus christ
What? Who did?
>>
>>123612277
>>123612411
>>123612450

You guys are seriously stupid, the giftians aren't computers or shit like that, they don't have an AI. They have fuckin souls.
>>
>>123612579
I bet he did.
>>
>>123612495
No, people call it forced because the whole premise is built around generating drama.
>>
>>123612613
That's almost all of anime.
>>
>>123612606

i bet they have a marketing campaign on par with apple.
>>
>>123612613
Then there's no such thing as non-forced drama in anime, it's always present by design.
>>
>>123612564
That's not an artistry, just bad writing
>>123612524
>>
>>123612648
It's usually not this blatant.
>>
>>123612524
I suppose you think Isaac Asimov is also a terrible sci-fi writer.

When technology is too far ahead to compare with modern day analogues you just have to roll with their technology-specific rules.
>>
>>123612659
Yes it is. The only non-blantant drama anime is a comedy anime.
>>
>>123612674
Asimov has a writing style where those usually blatant holes (like in this case) just drown in the rest. The same can't be said about Plastic Memories.

HALO (and Marathon) had plausible explanation regarding AIs:
>Smart artificial intelligences are based on the neural patterns of a human being, and they have a limited lifespan of seven years after which their memory maps become too interconnected and develop fatal endless feedback loops.

So this could be something similar.

Drowning out holes is the exact opposite of the 'reasonably detailed' criteria you posed earlier, you realize.
