The premise is basically that the insturments they're playing are also girls. Insturment girls and musician girls never directly interact as people, but there's lots of talking about each other in a jokey/oblivious ways on the musician side, and sad/romantic from the insturment girl side since being played is like being kissed and touched, for the insturments, obviously. It's never actually explict at all, if it stays like the novels.

Reading off 2ch and matome sites on the first-episode impressions (very questionable credibility):- The first episode covered a miniscule amount of the novel. To put into perspective, apparently it covered less than half of the first chapter of the manga adaptation.
- A lot of the episode were spent covering Kumiko's inner thoughts and emotional struggle.
- All in all it's an introductory episode, and too early to judge how good the rest of the series is based on the episode alone (though we're all going to judge it anyway, 10 days away and I can already hear the "boring" and "zzzz" and the people-fall-asleep-in-front-of-computer.jpgs).
- Ishihara OP, working his spinning motion-camera action again.
- Yamada ED, if you've seen her EDs you know what to expect. Someone said something about a red string (of fate?) in the ED.
- ED is written and composed by ZAQ, so that's yet another Chuu2 connection.
- Lots of depictions of legs, the space between legs. Someone also mentioned there's a focus on the difference in heights between characters.
- A user on 2ch said the animation doesn't reach Hyouka-tier, but it's quite up there.
- Sapphire is very kawaii
