K-ON College manga is just stupid. College, girl interact with girl only. Author can't insert boy because it will make them slut, not pure or something along that lines. But college without boy or drinking beer seems unrealistic. Probably author also can't write decent interaction/dialog between boy and girl.

Genshiken? Golden Time? Nodame Cantabile? Moyashimon?
It's a rare thing for Japan to adapt seinen/josei series set in college, much less make original shows either. College in Japan isn't that interesting anyway, your characters can become too jaded, they're not young and full of promise anymore. Anime culture is obsessed with youth and their high school years; always has been away will be.

When everybody behaves the same in schools and the anime is about someone being unique, then it works.
In college everybody can be unique because they can do whatever they want so the characters don't stand out much. In every single school anime if they show a glimpse of college even if it's a couple of months later, the characters are suddenly super mature and responsible.
