What did you think of Mawaru Penguindrum?
Will I like this if I liked Utena?
I'm still confused about some stuff though.
Like who Momoka and Sanetoshi were, and how Ringo found out the spell.
And the part when Kanba and Shouma were in the boxes was strange too.
Didn't like any of the characters or the story or the message.
It is an amazing show. It's a fun ride and quite entertaining. Ringo a best. It's filled with lots of symbolism that at points is just there to look deep. 4.5/5
i'm just a rock n roll man. I wouldn't know.
>>123084316
>It's filled with lots of symbolism that at points is just there to look deep
such as?
>>123083966
Only good for doujins afterwards.
Any good ones?
The whole terrorism bullshit was forced and unnecessary, they went full yandere.. I lost interest around ep 16, but it didn't feel right to drop it so I forced myself to finish.. it gets so cringy and painful to watch.
>>123084414
Apparently, there are many ShoumaxRingo non-h doujins but they're all untranslated.
liked all of the characters the story and message.
>>123084473
>non-h doujins
What is the point.
kanba did nothing wrong
>>123084216
Momoka is Rigno's magical sister who holds the spelll to change fate. Sanetoshi is a terrorist that tried to destroy everything, but Momoka half stopped him at the cost of her life. Now he's a ghost who wants to ruin everyone's life again.kind of
>>123084477
Was there really a message? All I got from this series is that terrorism is fine if it's for your imouto.
>>123084494
Why is there a magical sister?
Is Sanetoshi the leader? What does that make Kanba and Shouma's father? Why Antarctica? What are the penguins?
>>123083966
not by any means perfect, but loved it.
>>123084684
gonna need a run down on what constitutes perfect cos this series was by far in the way the closest I've seen
>>123084371
every shot of an apple, the teddy bear, that large ass statue building, random ass gyroscopes, the two bunny kids, the chisels, ping pong balls, etc. These are just things I saw in one episode alone so over like 26 episodes there's a bunch of objects put there just to look deep when their meaning is pretty superficial. They do have some meaning though, but the importance to these objects is way too high for what it's made to be.
>>123084559
the message was to not be selfish and always expect others to love you but to show others love as well. That ending completely wrecked me goddamn
It was great. Been meaning to rewatch it since Yuri Kuma started. (I'm liking Bears too but I'm not nearly as invested in it as I was in MPD when it was airing.)
>>123084765
Maybe some of those objects, but thhe significance of the apple was huge. Pretty much all those things you mentioned tied to the story of the man trying to cure his tree which was all being re-enacted by the family
>>123084765
The apple was the single most powerful motif in the show for life - not just physical life, but meaning and purpose as well. Jesus christ man, opinion discarded.
>>123083966
One of my all time favorites
Gave me a waifu
A husbando
Taught me how to make curry
>>123084957
>The apple was the single most powerful motif in the show for life
The single most powerful thing in this show was my dick when that loli (can't even remember her fucking name) walked down the platforms stripping.
>>123084749
actually i just said that as a precaution.
it's very close to perfect.
ikuhara is a hack
Pretentious garbage.
>>123085012
>that loli
anon...
The "curry day" episode was so good
Kanba was a faggot.
>>123085120
Pretentious greatness.
FTFY
It's an excellent and ambitious work that a lot of people dislike because it disregards plot consistency and characterization to develop its themes.
>>123085117
He's really not. Even if you think he's a shit director, he's not a hack. Look at what that actually means.
I loved it and I'm actually on episode seventeen of Utena. Utena's fun so far but it doesn't compare to what I felt when I was first watching Penguindrum.
>>123085122
this is amazing
>>123085242
>utena
>fun
>>123085162
This. This was my only problem with it.
Why did Kanba turn out to be such a faggot?
>>123084749
>wacky in the beginning
>good artstyle
>good production values
>got a lot out of the story
it's very damn near close to perfect.
as in, i got everything i could ask for in a show like this.
I liked the yuri rape part and ending
Are there people on /a/ who seriously believe Penguindrum was even close to perfect?
how is yuri kuma in comparison? didn't seem as well thought out or well made
>>123083966
its shit
>>123085400
name a perfect show
>>123085458
Initial D: First Stage.
>>123085416
I think it would have been better if it was as long as Penguindrum.
It feels really compressed.
>>123085416
I think it's more 'well thought out' in the sense that it didn't have the change in focus that Penguindrum did because of Fukushima, but for a smaller, less ambitious project it is still really well made and interesting. However, because of its shorter length, Ikuhara completely skipped out on trying to develop the cast and went for a straight abstract approach not unlike Adolescence Mokushiroku, so some people dislike it in that regard.
>>123085348
>I liked the yuri rape part
Shouma ruined it. I was mad.
>>123085348
buwaha that BDSM was glorious.. but kinda disappointing after all.
>>123085416
One cour and shoestring budget kills it.
>>123083966
I'm a fan of Murakami so I enjoyed all the references. I'd recommend anyone who enjoyed the show to try reading some of his works.
>>123085495
elaborate
>>123085671
I was just responding to a question, what is there a need to elaborate on?
>>123085656
Only reference I got was the reference to the book Galaxy Express 999 was based off at the end.
>>123085753
>Galaxy Express 999
You what now?
Yuri kuma is much better.
>>123085753
Watch Night on the Galactic Railroad. That's the story it was actually referencing, 999 just drew inspiration. Great movie.
>>123085753
The show is clearly Murakami influenced, you notice it if you've read one of his works.
>>123083966
A bit messy at times, flashbacks and cliff-hangers were overused, the Ringo arc is great a bit too long. But overall it was awesome.
>>123083966
I liked it.
>>123085898
*the Ringo arc was a bit too long.
I hope you fags watched Night on the Galactic Railroad after watching Penguindrum.
Spotting all the imagery Penguindrum borrowed will see you lose the bowl control.
pic related
>>123083966
Okay show.
Threads were incredible.
>>123085416
Characters feel wooden and the plot feels too rushed with no breather time. Still good but would be better with another cour.
I want to be stalked and raped by Ringo.
>>123086080
Great film.

Night on the Galactic Railroad was a terrible film.
How delusional are you Penguindrum faggots?
>>123084021
Yes. There's even a Nanami episode.
>>123086196
>film
dunno about the film, but the book was fairly interesting
>>123086196
Just get out.
>>123086181
2h4me
>>123086282
I won't argue the book but the film had an overblown amount of Christfag shit, some absolutely unbearable characters for the sake of pushing Christfag shit (that guardian for the 2 children) and some sketchy laying out of characters.
>>123086342
You faggots can be delusional sometimes so I have to throw the cold water over your head.
>>123086181
Those little routines with them on the train were always neat.
Also the first ED is god tier.

>>123086357
>Christfag
Did you watch it?
>>123086196
>delusional
>>123086483
Out of all the points you try to argue this?
Did you actually watch it? Or did you fall asleep and wake up near the end? I wouldn't blame you for that, it was mostly boring although it had some interesting segments.
>>123084980
>>123086539
Christianity does not equal "any theological or philosophical views on death or how to be a good person".

>>123086660
I seriously have to ask how long ago you watched this film.
MISTER PRESIDENT, WATCH OUTFunniest episode
>>123087416
OH MY GOD!
>>123086196
wouldn't say it's outright terrible but it wasn't amazing either. The animation and setting was really nice but the story and the characters rather boring. Still a decent watch
>>123086419
Why can I not find the original song anywhere?
>>123086419
So good. Anyone have other OP or ED webms?
All the OP and ED for this show were fucking great.
