The FSN [UBW] anime didn't even portray Saber's character right. Most people who watched only the stay night UBW anime don't understand Saber at all. Zero did a much better job at portraying her character. Can't say too much about Rin because she wasn't that important in the FSN UBW anime. Anyways, Zero characters are much better than the ones from the stay night anime.

Fate does have its grim moments, but it also has happy, rom-com moments too, Fate/Zero doesn't have those. It's pretty serious drama the whole way through.
For that reason, a lot of the long time Fate fans consider it a misleading introduction to the franchise.
It is true though that you won't get as much out of it if you haven't read Fate/Stay Night's visual novel, but you'll still be able to follow the story just fine.

IMO, Fate/Stay Night (and the larger meta-setting, to which it belongs, the Nasuverse) is a wonderfully complex and bizarre world which I really like, though it is not for all tastes. Kinoku Nasu, the writer behind it, is a little strange (to put it mildly) and has just as much of a problem sticking to the rules he creates as he does following through on the characterization he sets out on.This is why I think Fate/Zero is better than F/SN - he didn't write the novel as much as he approved of it.

Both just want to fight shit and have fun doing it, but can't entirely do it for one reason or another. Li's master was one of the only competent ones who didn't want his servant fucking around having all out fights, everything was an assassination. Also Li couldn't stop one-shot killing everything he fought. Had to handicap himself in order to finally get a good fight.

She's a living reality marble that reflects that master, her abilities are far more broken than you tend to realize. Although it's like a glass canon in a sense.
Like all Caster's if it comes down to a brawl then you're doing it wrong.
Although she can summon being stronger than even servants once per war that won't really go away until you manage to kill it for starters, and it can only be killed by one thing.

Pay attention to Merlin then in Garden of Avalon, Medea is top tier for current humans, but as far as servants go even in terms of magecraft, probably not.
Out of all Casters so far, she's about mid rank, maybe high mid-rank.
Merlin is the best wizard apparently. It's said that no matter how much talents or circuits you have, you cannot match him as long as he has the eyes that see through the world.

She's more broken than you realize as well, her Noble Phantasm basically encompasses the wish of her master. Her form takes on her master, her power creates the reflection of her masters desire.
In this war in particular it created a time-loop so that her master wouldn't have to die, but if it was someone else, it would be different. You have to kill her before she uses Queen's Glass Game or else the children's game will never end.
She can also create infinite card soldiers, laplace demon, a reality marble that causes everyone to forget everything, like all caster's she's got all kinds of abilities.
Only drawback is that her stats suck, so yes avoid fighting directly.

No need. Medea is a better magus than Jubstacheit, Zouken, and Tohsaka Nagato put together. She's figured out a way to make it work without anyone dying, on top of grant as many wishes as desired. All she needs is Saber and two command spells.
Really, if she were just a tad less malevolent and open to diplomacy, she could have reached an agreement with Artoria and Shirou and achieved everyone's desires.
