I don't get how anyone can like Gilgamesh unironically. The dude is a scumbag, he betrayed Tokiomi and allowed him to be killed, when Tokiomi was the only person in the whole fucking world who ever treated Gilgamesh with actual respect. No one showed as much respect to Gil as Tokiomi and Gilgamesh goes behind Tokiomi and pretty much kills him.

Tokiomi's yes-man act was a facade and Gilgamesh was well aware. He thought of the King of Heroes as a tool to be deployed with a bit of coaxing. He even went so far as to utilize a command spell to make the most proud servant of all retreat.
This behaviour coming from a man of no extraordinary talent or entertainment value was disgusting to Gilgamesh.
Tokiomi by no means saw Gilgamesh as a friend or partner, and Gilgamesh reciprocated that much. He had no reason to not betray Tokiomi when a better arrangement came along.

Yeah, that's mostly true, but Tokiomi still showed a shit ton of respect to Gil and pretty much treated him like a King, like in one of the scenes where he would bow down and not make eye contact with him when they would talk. Gil was a fucking ass to betray him like that, and all because he thought Kirei was "sooo interesting" and wanted him to take control of things.

Idk, I remember a scene where Gilgamesh commented on Tokiomi's treatment towards him as appreciated. Not sure if that was after he used to command spell or not though. I don't think the use of the command spell was enough to justify Gil betraying Tokiomi like that though, even as prideful as he is.

The thing is that arrangement doesn't even benefit Gil that much at all. He's just in it for entertainment. Gilgamesh takes all that pride in being the King of Heroes, yet once the only person in the series to treat him like an actual King comes along, he doesn't give a shit about him and betrays them.
I wish Gilgamesh could have learned a lesson from this in Stay Night, but it would have no real place in Stay Night's story.
I don't even know what type of character Gilgamesh is supposed to be. He shows characteristics of being both an evil scumbag and at times, a somewhat respectful and honorable person.
