Depends what you consider to be good.
If you're a history buff, this show will piss you off. If you're a military buff, this show will piss you off in the beginning. If you're a sci fi geek who prioritize the creativity of technology in sci fi works (most of sci fi geeks are like that), you won't like the show.
If you've been watching anime for some time and want to watch a show without expecting too much, this anime is good.

I love it, it should be watched as an epic story about two sides: the corrupt democracy (and his late attempt to claim it) against the righteous autocracy, with tons of very well developed characters, situations and classical mainstream literature references. 10/10 would watch once every year.

Then you should start the main 110 ep. ova, skiping the first 2 episodes because Overture to a New War is a remade of the first 2 chapters.
Theres 50 chapters of precuels, but are not that goos as the main OVA.

Most people who criticise it from that point of view usually don't really know what they're talking about. It's kinda like people who say things like "I'd rather read a book" are usually the types of people who really don't read a lot of books and are generally more on the uneducated side.

Personally I really enjoyed this series, the story has enough characters and substance to feel like a real television series drama, but in anime form. The pace moves along a bit slowly but just fast enough to let you relax and enjoy each episode individually.

I really wanna get into this series, but something that not even google has really answered for me is why one shouldn't watch it in chronological order. I'd like to know why I shouldn't before I dive right in. I have every part of it sitting in my hard drive, but I'm still hesitant on where to start.
