Did they really create an anime original ending, or is the author going to go along with it in the books too? It seemed like that was actually going to become the canon plot from their conversation in the meeting.

Similar things have been done before. In Aria for example they ended up making the anime original character Ai canon in the manga along with her role as Akari's understudy.
It's basically the same thing since the only thing they did differently was add a new character in, which the author approved of and will make canon.

This episode was fantastic. The lonesome Cowboy scene, the meeting between God and the director, the prick editor getting his, and Zuka-chan getting a VA role. The whole thing was perfect. I am going to be sad when this ends.

I think her getting an Aerial Girls role had been long foreshadowed. It wasn't a question of if, but when. Though I was kind of expecting she would substitute as Aria though. I did predict in an old thread though that she would voice an anime original character, which turned out to be the case.

The moment the last episode got canned at the end of last episode, I knew it was Zuka getting the role.
