If you really want to get into Lupin III watch the first series, Miyzaki's film (pretty much everyone recommends it), the first episode of the second series, then whatever red jacket episodes or specials you want.
If not, just read their character profiles. It's a pretty simple franchise.

Not him, but I just watched Jigen's Gravestone yesterday and the reveal at the end makes it seem like they're definitely going to tie in some sort of story involving Mamo as the big bad. Hopefully it's mostly old school Lupin fun though, instead of what we got with Fujiko. With the way Jigen's Gravestone was handle, I think it'll be alright though.

In series 2. There was someone with the song stuck in their head because they had some episodes near another user that song whenever remotely possible and even made a Lupin superman themed episode probably just to use that song every other minute. I'm currently watching Lupin series 2 so I noticed that when it started to play all the time for a few episodes. Not sure by how much I'm off, but the superman episode should be at like episode ~90. It got used a bunch more around then, though.
