What does /a/ think of Giant Robo?
Overrated shit.
My favorite anime.
>>122564038
It is good, very good.
the dub is godlike
Not much robo to it.
Still one of the best anime ever created.
I still think the ending have been better.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3uij4CF9H8
Fucking amazing.
>>122564242
The real ending was not animated. This was the Empire Strikes Back part of a bigger story.
>>122564038
Saw first episode, doesn't seem like anything good, felt like a shonen with shallow characters. The OST was about the only thing that stood out. Not sure if I'll keep watching.
>>122564368
Read the manga then?
>>122564368
It depresses me that they'll never make the sequel.
>>122564384
Do it man, it's pretty fucking good. The retro aesthetic was my main draw in.
>>122564285
The operatic shit was so cool
>>122564457
I don't really want to watch something that'll end up being average or just ok. From the interaction and the overall feel I got from the first 50 minutes, I sense that it will keep being average.
>>122564399
I've heard that the anime's story is different. It's somewhat like a fanfiction of the manga.
>>122564544
If you think what you saw is average you a probably one of these losers that watches anime for "the story".
>>122564544
If your time is that precious why are you even watching anime at all?
It's great, one of the best OVAs of the 90s.
"For all the effort you put into it, what a lousy ending"
>>122564657
>>122564664
I watch enough mediocre seasonal mediocre shows. Yes, I find them entertaining, but if I'm going to watch a finshed anime, I don't want watch more mediocrity. I want to be entertained by a noteworthy series.
>>122565113
There is nothing mediocre about Giant Robo. The onyl thing you could reasonably call mediocre was the story because you might just not be into that type of story, but everything about it really is exquisitely high quality one of the highest quality OVAs ever made. You have to be literally blind to miss that fact.
>>122564038
I think I have to finish it
>>122565194
I don't care about the production values, I want to immerse myself into a great story with valuable characters. This is what I meant by mediocre, Robo's characters felt like they were from a shonen manga. The setting itself doesn't seem like anything noteworthy too, although it doesn't matter much. But the peek I got of the OST was very good.
Incredible they somehow manage to make this many OVAs before studio was like FUCK YOU ALL PEOPLE THE COSTS ARE CRAZY YOU FIRED!
>>122565409
>I don't care about the production values, I want to immerse myself into a great story with valuable characters.
Holy shit get the fuck out, read a book nigger.
>>122565409
>Robo's characters felt like they were from a shonen manga
They literally are you fuckwit.
Philharmonic OST is best OST.

>>122565113
>"since I watch enough mediocre fiction, I'll avoid this product because someone said its not "high quality" in every segment my low-sped brain divides and rate animation"
>>122565514
>"things that aren't shit are stupid"
>>122565548
Well that explains it.
>>122565514
I already do, you can have more than one hobby. Did you know that?
>>122565725
why the fuck do you watch seasonal shows?
>>122565788
Because it's entertaining?
>>122565788
Go back shitposting in the haremshit of the season thread bitch
>>122564794
Who are you quoting?
>>122565926
Who do you think you are responding to?
>>122566032
Well fuck you too for feeding that cunt
>bitch about GR story
>still better than most of anime
<ok>
>>122565409
>>122565113
It's considered an all time classic. People in this thread have now told you that it's good. Here, I'll even reiterate for you. It's not just the production values. It's got a poignant story full of grandeur and pathos with a multitude of colorful characters with varying motivations and a wheels within wheels background story, all of which delivered over 7 OAV episodes which manage to flesh out a world and characters in a way that many 2 cours series don't manage. It's Imagawa's love letter to an entire era and one particular mangaka's lifetime work.
If you still insist on your first episode judgement that it's mediocre, then by all means, ignore it and go watch all the exciting stuff you have on your backlog. IMO it gets more intriguing with each episode, but if the style is not your cup of tea and you don't want to give it an actual chance, then cut your losses and both sides will be happier for it.
>>122566102
Ginrei was goddamn hot. I really need to watch her special one of these days.
>>122566139
Thanks, I'll keep it safe in my backlog and look back into it soon enough. For now I'll check out Kill la Kill.
>>122564038
It's alright, but I don't like it as much as Imagawa's Tetsujin 28 remake.
>>122566202
I have been meaning to watch that some day soon.
I think the main robo design looks dumb. That's why I haven't watched it, because the only reason I watch anime is to see cool/badass things and it doesn't look very cool.
>>122566252
Get to it, anon. It's fantastic.
Masterpiece.
>>122564038
>asking plebs bent on neverending AZ shitflinging about this masterpiece

Looks like Daisuke is gay when drunk on Shizuma Beer.
Why do you hate G Gundam /a/?
>>122567402
It's Gundam.
>>122567402
I don't hate it. It's glorious.
The Birth of Zangetsu the Midday, The Plan to Assassinate Daisaku - the Canary Penitentiary, The Boy of Three Days, The Greatest Battle in History - General Kanshin vs. Shokatsu Koumei, The Boy Detective, Kindaichi Shōtarō, Appears! and The Siege ofBabel when?
>>122564038
Not mecha
>>122567569
Imagine if we had continuously gotten 1 OAV episode per year, from back when Giant Robo was first released up until today, adapting the entire saga.
>>122567838
my dick.
I tried to watch it but I fell asleep every single episode.
>>122567402yes
Keeping up with this shit would've been suffering, look up the release dates.
>>122566027
Mustache dude talking to fan dude in the final episode
It's the most self-aware moment I've ever seen in an anime
>>122568047
glad i watched it how i did.
>>122568065
I don't remember this.

Both of you, leave.
>>122568065
I used to dislike the ending for ending on such a cliff hanger. Then, after I learned about the whole story setup, I realized that this was "The Empire Strikes Back" of the laid out story and I accepted it as a really cool setup for the (probably never to be animated) grand finale. Hell, it even has its own Imperial March:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IMQVjXRM5o
Also, the story of the Shizuma crisis did really get a pretty thorough conclusion, so in hindsight and after having thought on it for a bit, I'm pretty fond of the ending.
>>122568464
no u
>>122567838
It would suddenly look like shit thanks to early digital crap everyone started to use.
>>122568562
depends on whose in charge right?

>>122568269
I kinda liked the Big O song hype more
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52BcC9Qzl-Q
>>122568476
It doesn't make the ending any good, especially since in the case of Star Wars first they had a full conclusive story with the first movie and only after it's success did they end the second movie on a cliffhanger because the third one already had the green light
And the Shizuma Crisis ending was retarded anyway, it was seriously just a stupid misunderstanding, if the entire conflict could have been solved by just adding one line of dialogue then it's shit. It would have been better if professor von Folgor had just been a dick
>>122568845If one enjoyed Giant Robo would they enjoy this?
>>122568898
I know I love both.
>>122568892
>It would have been better if professor von Folgor had just been a dick.
I actually agree with this.

Yes, you might like it even more as I did

Sure is casual in here.
>>122569186
You post something then faggot
>>122569186
post IT then.
One of the best soundtracks in all of anime.
The show as a whole was also great. I feel like people might appreciate it more if they've watched at least some stuff in the kung fu movie tradition.
>>122568898
It's super mecha + Batman TAS.
You need to be normie pleb or have really shit taste to not enjoy it.
>>122569215
>>122569262
I was just pointing out you looked like you were arguing over which had the most casual taste in anime? I don't care to participate in the discussion.
And no, casual doesn't mean the anime are bad.
>>122569395
>songs are anime
You're a retard.
>>122569441
A song being hype is very dependent on how it's used in the anime.
>>122569395
>2010+6-1
>acting pretentious about cartoons
Just end your life
I feel like downloading it again just to see mecha fighting with swords.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1VFqsew26c
>>122569481
That doesnt mean that the anime is good or bad, but you can't really say that TTGL didn't use it to build extreme hype
>>122564038
prettyneat
>>122569366
I don't like the Batman TAS animation style though. I'll give it a shot. robot girl looks cute as fuck.
>>122569558
It did, it's hype as fuck., and TTGL is great.
It's still a pretty casual level of discussion when you're arguing over EVA, TTGL and G Gundam for which has the hypest track in their OST.
>>122568892
I think it holds up well enough. You can Frodo pretty much any story into the ground with questions that leave out the circumstances under which things took shape. Besides, it's a tragedy at heart. Many things which could have been prevented happened because that once sentence wasn't uttered or the intent of an action was misunderstood and various people used the momentum to further their own agenda.
>>122569690
>EVA
>hype
Besides the James Bond rip-off track, there's no hype in it
Fuck, I love that soundtrack. Play this when you get ready for work:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8aZFKOPMEQ
>>122569719
>and various people used the momentum to further their own agenda
Too bad we will never know what that agenda is because it ended in a cliffhanger
>>122570601
kek when you have such a trivial job though.
>>122570679
You can read the manga that finished the story.
>>122569664
Dorothy is pretty awesome.
