Setting up the village really killed the story since it's where Naofumi went full gary stu and every main character turned into unrepentant Shieldfags.

Spear Gaiden IS better then the main story. Or at least, better than 75% of the main story, everything after the return of the queen. If I have to point something bad about it, it's those fucking loops. The basically make every new character useless, since all new characters in each loops are doomed to never appear in any future loops, and all old characters from the main story having a big role in a loop are completely forgotten in the successive loops. Like Eclaire in loop 4, or Melty in loop 5.

Who fucking cares about the other characters. Spear Gaiden is basically Motoyasu and Naofumi's manly-kickass-adventures. And Motoyasu is the first character who (almost) never failed to protect Naofumi's smile for 300+ chapters. He's not the hero we deserve, he's the hero Naofumi deseves.
The half of the village not following him didn't really bother me. I can understand them not following him.
What angered me was Rat's experiment turning on Naofumi near the end. I wanted a final battle, not Naofumi getting his ass kicked and shat on.
