I have family living in the area where tsunami hit, my grandparents' house is a 30-minute drive from the shoreline. The waves never crossed the mountains, but they wrecked the beach we used to play at and the surrounding town - there was a foot-bath, a senior center, elementary school close to the sands. When I visited around seven months later, all the nice pine trees lining the stone wall were ripped up, there were wheelchairs scattered around, a couple of odd kids' shoes. I remember wondering if the owners of those shoes and wheelchairs managed to get away in time. It was a depressing view, let me tell you. The last time I visited was last summer, and even then there was still plenty of rubble. Fishing boats beached, and the town's trees and shrubbery were all brown because they died from the seawater. You'd think a developed country like Japan would recover in a snap but this place is slightly more rural
After I checked that my relatives were safe, I remember being worried whether Shiibashi Hiroshi was okay because I was really into Nuramago at the time, turns out I shouldn't have worried because he's in Kansai region
