Gundam F91 may be really flawed and clearly meant to be a longer 50 episode series as was originally planned but good god if it doesn't hold up as probably the best animated Gundam work ever. The level of detail to everything, how crisp and smooth it looks and moves is remarkable considering it's now almost 25 year old hand drawn cell animation.

The thing with AZ is that speaking as a long time fan of mecha anime that has seen literally dozens of titles I'm pretty sure AZ is actually made for people that don't normally like mecha anime and got into anime within the last 5 years or so judging by who seems to like it most, who doesn't, and the kinds of reactions they have over it.
I've never really actively watched a Gundam series though I came close to it in the toonami days with G Gundam. I started Turn A Gundam, its pretty cool! thanx 4 the recs /a/ :^)

I don't understand why this one gets so much attention from people. Like it's really bitter arguing too and it's not like either of them are these great pillars of intrigue or anything. Slaine has been the more interesting and developed character by far but even his arc kind of doesn't make a whole lot of sense from season to season. It's like there's not enough of the usual shipping crap for people to bicker over so they just default to arguing about the co-leads.
Also the princess has to be one of the dullest ones I've seen in a mecha anime since Marina Ismail in Gundam 00, but at least that show had other female characters to come in and shore up the slack like Sumeragi and Soma. They seemed like they were kind of trying to have Rayet fill some sort of counterpoint role to Asseylum but pretty much just gave up within a couple of episodes and Rayet has barely been a factor since.
Asseylum much like Marina is essentially a walking plot device that pretty much does nothing beyond looking pretty, acting as battery and bargaining chip for the Earth side for most of the first season and then spends most of the second season floating in a jar only to wake up and try to act as a tether to Slaine. Her role is pretty much defined almost entirely by her desire for peace and how she is used by the two male leads. We know absolutely nothing else about her, her interests or if she even has others sides to her personality other than the Perfect Peace Princess thing.
I don't know though, the show raises and drops or resolves plot points quicker than Code Geass did at times, it's hard to get attached to much of anything or anyone within that show.

I have. It's a 4/10, and so is Zeta. I'm going to watch the next one in the chronology sooner or later, but I'm interested in watching Turn A.
There is something so weird about how Tomino writes characters. They both feel realistic but then at times just an inconsistent blob of emotions. It doesn't help it's in a war environment and you have all these terribly cliched things.

Eh, speaking as someone that's seen all of the shows, Carved Seal of Flames is one of the best ones anyway.
The original Garo is a classic but the effects are kinda dates, especially his suit. Probably the best story of them though, even if it's a simplistic story.
Makai Senki's story is dumb, but at least it continued the story of the characters and didn't feel unneeded.
YamiTera's only good quality was the setting. Bad characters, overuse of CGI, dumb story.
Flower of Makai was pointless. I mean genuinely unneeded. Not to mention Raiga is nowhere near as good of a character as his father. Kouga's stoicness made him seem aloof, he was like Protoman in classic MM. Raiga's stoicness just makes him boring.

Just don't watch any subs by TV-Nihon. They are infamous for just how bad they are, one of the big reasons a lot of subbers stopped using TL Notes and constant honorifics is because of their blatant overuse of them.
