Were you at the 2005 4chan otakon panel, /a/?

>pedobear, longcat, internet is serious business

life was so much simpler tbh
>>
>>122108618
Because there wasn't people shouting "newfags" or "go back to reddit" back then. Everyone could take jokes easily.
Today, anyone can pretend to be elitist, and god forbids you if you used some meme from here somewhere else. 4chan has become so No fun allowed, it hurts
>>
>>122108250
moot looks like something out of /ss/
>>
>>122108902
If you spoonfeed retards instead of telling them to lurk more, this place will turn into /v/ in a few months.
>>
>>122108902
It became that out of necessity, sure it was fun back in 2005 but around 2007-2009 /a/ became a shithole that only modern day /b/ could compare to in terms of retardation. Neo-/a/ isn't great, but rest assured it's been far worse than it is now.
>>
>>122109157
I couldn't agree more, I faced the "elitism" people complain about when I was a newfag, but I saw it for what it was.

Its kind of like the saying "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day, teach a man a fish, and he'll post it every day until you like it"

Without this self moderation /a/ would turn into a cesspool like reddit or MAL. Go to either of those sites right now, find your favorite show from recent season and read some of the discussion. You will never want to leave /a/ again.
>>
>>122108250

Nope, i came to 4chan at 06 around March.
>>
>>122109400
It has become far too elitist.
>>
>>122109400
Literally this.

Elitism is the only way to keep /a/ alive and stop newfaggotry.
It have worked for me, it will work for everyone.
/a/ told me to lurk more when I came here first, and that what I've done.
>>
>multitrack drifting was ten years ago

Holy shit I'm old.
>>
>>122109578
It's actually less elitist than it was a few years ago. 2012-2014 was full of clusterfucks, Toonami General, SnK, Naruto ending. It's mellowed out in the past few months(ignoring moot leaving), if we can minimize the debates on board culture and sources of newfaggotry elitism won't cause as many problems because it won't come up as much.
>>
How long do you think /a/ will continue to be a good board before it degenere in /v/ 2.0?
>>
>>122109578
"lurk moar" was ever present, /a/ just found more alternatives to say it. If it is more elitist than before, then only because it previously lacked any real theme, it was basically /b/ with less gore and porn threads.
>>
>>122110071
The good thing about /a/ is it's about anime&manga where there are new stuff to talk about every season for anime or week to manga
>>
Why do people from other boards say /a/ is THE elitist board?

I came here and didn't find anything the atmosphere bad, it was quite welcoming to say the least.
>>
>>122110283
Probably because of bad experiences in the past. These days, /a/ is pretty chill as long as you don't create recommendation threads or go all like "SAUCE???!" on something everyone should be familiar with.
>>
>>122110071
The real question isn't when it'll degenerate into /v/ 2.0, it's whether it can come back from that. Lots of boards have become worse than /v/ is now, the problem with /v/ is that it eventually submitted to its fate and never recovered. /a/'s advantage is that its board culture, while occasionally going overboard, is designed to help it recover from shifts in community and the like. One good thing I'll say about /co/ is that it's still at least trying to recover from it going to shit a few years ago, despite its board culture having the exact opposite effect.
>>
>>122110283
There's a limited number of shows that get discussion on /a/, and they change every three months. That makes board culture weird for crossboarders, because they don't know what's being talked about if they aren't watching currently.
>>
>>122110283
It is only elitist if you act like you have no idea what you are doing or how to post. A lot of things work indirectly here and it is understandable that people have no idea how it works at first sight.

Top pop wew. Don't talk like you were there

The tapestry maymay was a thing back in 2005?
>>
I went to a 4chan panel at an anime convention once but walked out because it was full of faggots. Don't think it was Otakon '05 though.
>>
>>122112008
It's kind of depressing how people still say "go back to gaia", as if gaia was still relevant. It's like they're completely unaware of how long they've been on here.
>>
>>122108902
The difference between modern /a/ and old /a/ is that old /a/ liked new memes and played around with them while shunning old ones, while new /a/ hates pretty much all memes. They may be developed in one thread, but when you post them in the next you're already alienating half the crowd.

That's one problem /a/ has. We can't really produce much original content here anymore. Though to be fair, memes aren't exactly original content. If you draw a comic and post it, (and if you're not a shit artist or your comic reeks of underage) you will get a positive reaction.
Nobody does that anymore though. I think the last ones were guy and loli on an island, old man at the end of the internet and guy-Jean, and they're all several years old now.
>>
>>122112139

Remember you are here forever
>>
>>122112236
Why can't you just let me forget?
>>
/a/ is great because it's constantly evolving, anyone can hop on board /v/ and start shitposting easy because they've been crying about the same stuff for years. /a/ on the other hand is constantly moving on to the next new thing. Honestly one of the harder boards to troll and shitpost on
>>
>>122112064
>anime convention
>not full of faggots
>>
>>122112210
Guy Jean was pretty good at first, but like most things as it went on it got worse and worse.
>>
>>122112210
I thought they were still trying to make new Guy Jean stuff? Also, while the lack of it is dissapointing, people need to stop acting like OC is the main purpose of boards outside of /b/, that mentality led to some of the darkest times in 4chan history.
>>
>>122112260
Memories don't live like people do
They'll always 'member you
Whether things are good or bad
It's just the memories that you have.
>>
>>122112313
I was about to say how easy it is to just make a rec thread, but those barely ever get more than one post of genuine anger any more.
>>
The only thing keeping /a/ from suffering /v/'s and /co/'s fate is the fact that SJW have not started their bullshit with anime yet. I give it 5 more years at the most before we're overrun.
>>
>>122112362
Life truly is one long sensation. The question is, are we the ones experiencing it, or are we the experience itself?
>>
>>122112443
Whenever the Jap Olympics are, that's when it will start.
>>
>>122112443
>implying
SJWs have been trying to start shit for years, it'll be at least a decade before Japan even starts to give an inkling of a shit.
>>
>>122112313
/a/ is also one of the few boards who hasn't been effected by the anti sjw war 4chan has been raging for the last 3 years. Ever since everyone decided to take themselves seriously 4chan has been plagued with that bullshit.
>>
>>122112443
Stop it with the fucking /v/ boogeyman.

I think the only threat /a/ faces is casualization. At some point it really will have a community of seasonal watchers with only a few guys who have 3 or even 4 digits of anime watched.
But even that is not actually likely.
>>
>>122112559
It doesn't have to reach Japan. The japs don't care and probably will never care because SJW don't speak Japanese and don't post on the Japanese Internet. /a/ and other English-speaking communities are not safe though.
>>
>>122112569
Most people on /a/ probably have <200. It's a sad fact.
>>
>>122112569
/a/ will literally always be mostly people who have seen 100-200 series, with a small group of people in the ridiculous 1000-2000+ territory.

People come and go, that's just how it is. The intelligentsia will always be the minority. In life and on /a/.

We really have nothing to worry about. Just keep rollin' bros.

I hate that /co/ was overrun by this shit just because comic artists use tumblr a lot.
