I know this is not the holy grail of the genre but, I think it was a respectable series.

It was an okay show, but really didn't break out as something particularly memorable. In most seasons for the past couple years there have been at least one so-so, generic-sounding LN adaptation that sells 1-2k.
Just because Trigger made it doesn't mean that the material they were working with was particularly fresh / engaging. I still wonder why the hell they picked this up in the first place; maybe the publisher offered them a paycheck up-front to adapt this no matter how it turned out just to promote the source material. Lots of people will watch an anime like this just to pass the time if it's fun enough, and after it's done, figure "hey, for like $6 I can just go buy the book that continues where this left off" and so they do that rather than buy the anime itself (a multi-hundred dollar investment in something unlikely to even get an S2). For us who can't read moon it sucks when we're cut off, but the model makes a lot of sense for nips.

Nah, more like they usually don't buy LN anime but the LNs themselves. For example Mondaiji has been consistently one of the very top-selling LNs, but its anime didn't sell that well despite being very well-liked.
The other thing is I think people pondered what buying this would mean for Trigger; they don't want to support a new studio doing work that most other studios could do about as well, especially when this studio wanted to make a grand entrance as having a real personality / spunky wildness to it with KLK.

Honestly I would have LOVED this series much better if it followed Hajime and his crew instead of Jurai.

Honestly the only good parts about this show were the references.
It started good then it changed itself too fast. Promised a haremshit then turned to SoL then went to shounen. But I liked it and wish it didn't flopped. Eleventaste works again.

When I read chapter 1 of the manga, it was pretty fucking funny. It was an adaptation, and it was great.
