What the fuck, Punpun? Why?

Having a neglectful family doesn't really justify anything! Other people had it worse!

Punpun was just fine again today

Men who have known nothing but suffering cannot handle the sweet things in life anymore.

What once may have made them happy would only remind them of their sorrows after being deprived of the sweet fruit for so long.

I knew I should expect something dark from a story that starts with domestic violence, but I didn't expect this.
>>
>>121788815
It broke me earlier when he started abusing Aiko just like her mother did, to the same reaction.

So he's not a tranny. Good job!
>>
The excuse for his personality is written by punpun himself in the glasses chick book. It's the story of an emo guy with lots of issues, because having a normal and stable character would be uninteresting.

Dude she literally did nothing wrong, I don't care if you dislike her but try to look at her character without the shit taste lenses on. Look at this whole scene, for example, she's still worried about someone else even in that situation.
Anyway, if you think Punpun got a happy ending she's not the only character you don't understand, so I'm not about to waste time on this shit.
>>
>>121794614
No, both Punpun and Aiko fucked up big time. Both of them wanted to sacrifice themselves for the other to give meaning to their life, which they thought was meaningless. They never actually tried to take control of their lives, always running away from their problems instead of dealing with them head-on like proper adults. To the very end, they were still about as mentally mature as children, though given their shit lives, I can somewhat understand.

Right, I agree. But that doesn't mean that either of them deserves to die.
And they actually tried to do something at some point shortly before the body was found, finding jobs, a house and whatnot. But too little too late, I guess.
>>
They were damned the minute they decided to hide the corpse.
Should've called the police and standed trial pledging innocence based on self-defence, since there was no better way out of that situation.

But obviously they weren't thinking straight at the time.

>pledging innocence based on self-defence
Not so easy when the victim is a crippled old woman who has been strangled and then stabbed repeatedly. While you could plead self-defence because of aiko being stabbed, they would still have been locked up for excessive use of force.
If someone tries to mug you at knifepoint you can get away with disabling that person, but if you knock him out and then proceed to kick him in the face till he dies you'll still be sentenced for murder.
>>
>>121795500

Even so it would still be better than disposing the corpse and ending up:
1. getting caught anyway
2. what actually happened

Aiko died because of that, and Punpun may as well be dead too.

I recommended it it to a friend of mine whose a bit disturbed, but so far he's liking it. He told me "If shit like this was supposed to crush my soul I would have killed myself a long time ago" so I don't think he's getting the most out of it if he wasn't so numb, but its good to see someone I know read something other then whatever random trash is mainstream on Netflix or some shit now. I've been skimming through it again and I realized just how well put together it is. Made me appreciate it a little more. Like Inio can really portray despair really fucking well with shadows and shit. Plus, there are still some lines that give me chills after all this time
>Punpun... Am I... going to die here?
>...
>Yes.
or whenever God, with his fucking faggot ass face shows up in the later arcs, its just so great
>WHY DON'T YOU JUST KILL YOURSELF PUNPUN?
Damn I love this shit.
>>
>>121796463
We don't know anything about what would have happened if they turned themselves in. Aiko was pretty fucked up, she probably would have killed herself at some point.
>>
>>121795500
If Sachi or someone found them a good lawyer, they could have gotten off very light.

Worst they can charge you with is excessive force in self-defense and/or manslaughter, meaning the court has acknowledged your initial right to violence and the strenuous circumstances of the crime. You get a temporary insanity diagnosis for Punpun and argue battered child syndrome for Aiko. No juror will feel bad for the mother to begin with, so I'm pretty sure you could get them off with court-mandated therapy or something.

Nah, he's not particularly edgy so much as he's all burnt out on the various drugs he's done and jaded/numb to life. He's not edgy by any means, but I did sort of word it strangely. Regardless, its interesting to see someone who isn't normally inclined to feel empathetic for fiction or stories read something like Punpun. And even still, he's smart enough to get some of the shit that happens without necessarily crying his eyes out while it was happening like my weenie ass did. Like he picked up that Sachi was the girl at the factory when they were in elementary school which I was literally in the dark for until I had to have it spelled out to me by Inio.
>>
>>121796772
>If Sachi or someone found them a good lawyer
...You do know we're talking about Japan, right?

Some lawyers never win a case in their whole careers.
>>
>>121797057
Just... don't hire these?
>>
>>121796922
Not him, but I disagree. The story was all about intertwining narratives and long-term development - characters fade in and out of each others' sights, and we get snapshots of various points over ten years. Then we get a detailed portrayal of Punpun, interacting with only Aiko, going through presumably the defining experience of his life, and then it ends without any presentation of how that feeds back into his or others' lives.
>>
>>121796998
Well, yeah, that's what excessive force is. That's a much weaker charge than first-degree murder, and with all the other mitigating factors, prison would not be at all inescapable.

>>121797017
Did you read it as it released, though? Because that hint about Sachi is very obvious if you read the factory part three hours beforehand and not four years beforehand.

Nah, I actually marathoned it, but it was over the span of about 2 or 3 weeks, so by the time I got to the "reveal" about Sachi it was two or three weeks past and it slipped my mind. He picked it up, but you might be right about it being like, two or three days fresh in his mind.

I'm still itching to hear what he thinks about the ending. Its even debated about in this thread, so its up for interpretation. I'm torn, but I'm inclined to believe that despite its pessimistic appearance, Sachi is good for him, just as Midori is good for Yuichi despite his feelings otherwise. Like, Sachi and Punpun told eachother everything that had happened in their lives, just like Yuichi and Midori (as hinted at by Sachi asking "Oh is this the kid from Elementary school?" in the last chapter), so I think they'll get better. He'll probably see it more pessimistically though. And I am also torn because Punpun having a downer ending is just a better conclusion for the story as a whole considering its mood and theme and such, but regardless, I still look at it optimistically.
>>
>>121797635
Even ignoring all the pessimistic stuff in-universe, Inio has expressly said it's meant to be horrible.
>>
>>121796883
Very few people know how to end a story, regardless of nationality.

>>121797220
He ended up as an empty husk, which is probably the most believable ending that could have been achieved, and the worst one for punpun. The other option would have been for him to kill himself, but I think that would have lessened the impact as a whole. With Aiko dead he has nothing left and finally just resigns himself to the dreary existence which he has been trying to escape since childhood.

>>121797635
>Sachi is good for him, just as Midori is good for Yuichi despite his feelings otherwise.
It is only good for him in relation to and relative to the relationship with sachi, the best thing for punpun himself, not considered in relation to anyone else, would be death.
We don't know if punpun might change as he grows older, but I doubt it, he simply doesn't seem able to enjoy life. Maybe if he started browsing 2ch..
