>During the pre-writing planning phase, Iwakami simply requested that Urobuchi make the storyline "heavy".[3] However, Shinbo further specified that it should contain copious amounts of blood and violence, elements that were unusual to the magical girl genre. The director also specifically sought for many of the magical girl characters to be killed throughout the series.[5] Urobuchi admitted he had no trouble with these requirements, referencing his past reputation as a writer of very dark and somber stories, something Shinbo had not known the full extent of.[6] One objective was for the script to starkly contrast with the way the anime was to be marketed. Shinbo planned for the series to be advertised in an innocent and pure manner that would deliberately conceal its dark undertones.[7] For example, the title logo for the anime was rendered using rounded fonts that would appear more harmless to audiences. Urobuchi further misled fans following the development of the anime by using his Twitter account to try to convince them that the plot of the series was very innocuous. The true nature of the series was disguised because Shinbo strongly desired for its dark themes to come as a complete surprise to the viewer.[6]

And yet people will continue to defend this shit.

Be careful. You'll be swarmed by Urobitch and Shinbo nuthuggers like roaches comes out of the woodwork.
>>
>>121237006
It clearly says there the violence was there to contrast with the viewers expectations of both the marketing and the magical girl genre. It isn't for its own sake but to produce and effect on the audience.
>>
>>121237107
It was nothing but cheap ploys and gimmicks, like the show itself.

Basically it was made to troll moefags

and it worked since moefags like OP is still butthurt about it

Provoking a reaction from your audience by misleading their expectations is a cheap ploy? I guess most comedy is a cheap ploy aswell then? I suppose mystery novels are cheap ploys also?

at best you'll get more buzzword spouting

Why is this bad?
>>
>>121237252
If madokafaggots stopped praising the show as a masterpiece and an example of deep writing, there'd be no issues. And yes, it's a cheap tactic.
>>
>>121237330
I don't even think the show is all that great, but the OP is just retarded. I wonder sometimes if these people actually just think in buzzwords or even take more than 5 seconds to consider and think about their arguments before posting them.

I don't get it.

First two minutes of Madoka:

>>
>>121237366
What isn't cheap then?
No one praises Madoka because it's "deep". It's a really straightforward show.
>>
>>121237366
A commonly employed dramatic form, employed across almost every artistic medium there is, in works of high and low brow natures, of misleading expectations to reveal something unexpected is a cheap trick? Just for the sake of you going "hurr madokishitlol, maddokkafaggots everybuddy!"? Yeah, fuck off.
>>
>>121237441
prophetic scenes are not too uncommon in mahou shoujo

Now one of the main cast's head getting bitten off sort of is
>>
>>121237469
>it's commonly employed which means it's good!

kill la kill yourself

>>121237391
keep gargling that urobitch cock
>>
>>121237441
That really isn't all that out of the ordinary, you might thing it was somewhat odd but really that wouldn't even look out of place in precure with a more standard art scene and perhaps a slightly less creepy atmosphere.
>>
>>121237441
It's not really dark.
>things fighting
>the sky is dark!
>contract with me to save stuff!
The scene is fucked up once you realize the meaning behind QB's words and what Homura said to Madoka
>>
>>121237540
>it's commonly employed which means it's good!
See
>I wonder sometimes if these people actually just think in buzzwords or even take more than 5 seconds to consider and think about their arguments before posting them.
I'll stop responding to you though as it is clearly a waste of time anybody who responds to an argument quoting someone with a point they never made followed by kill la kill yourself isn't worth my time.
>>
>>121237515
It's a prophetic scene showing the total destruction of Madoka's city.
>>

Amazing isn't it? They also outlined 1 sentence summaries of what major events would happen in each episode before writing them too.

There is no mention of popularity in my post. Try reading.

This would probably be dismissed as a Madoka rip-off if it ever got an anime despite coming out 8 years earlier
>>
>>121237589
A city can be rebuilt and there are no victims.
I know people who dropped Madoka before ep3 because they thought it'd be a lovey-dovey magical girl.
>>
>>121237366
>>121237252
The entire point of film is to make and break the expectations of the viewer.

>weird, surreal setting
Even without the deaths it wouldn't be lovey-dovey magical girl series.

>>
>>121237765
One of those is quoting me, the other is something you made up. Once again try reading.

The point of that post, seeing as you missed it, was that to dismiss a common dramatic technique used through out pretty much every artistic medium in both high and low brow culture as a "cheap trick" in order to go "hurr madoka so shit kill ya kill yourself!" is pathetic.

Notice how that has nothing to do with popularity.
>>
>>121237815
You have seen Precure right? Where the bad guys hang out? Those are all wierd surreal settings with creepy shit.
>>
>>121237895

>to dismiss it as a cheap trick because you want to enrage fans of an anime is pathetic

Maybe you can understand if I try communicate in your own simpleton language.
>>
If they wanted it to be a surprise then they shouldn't have hired Urobuchi
>>
>>121237815
the surreal parts would usually just be taken as simple SHAFT designs, which usually have no meaning to them.
>>
>>121238017
Nah, it's shit writing. Just because it's a popular type of shit doesn't make it any less shit.

Kill yourself nigga.

So OP, you're telling me they made exactly what they set out to make?

Well done. You've cracked the case.

Too bad they didn't figure out how to not Deus ex machina the finale.
>>
>>121238082
You are literally arguing with children dude.

4chan is mostly 18 and under these days. They don't have the knowledge or experience to even begin to understand the intricacies of the visual arts.

No.
>>
>tried to be different from other mahou shoujo
>cops out in the end with a generic resolution

Rebellion is a different story, but it's too much of an embarrassing mess to be worthy of discussion.
>>
>>121238297
It is. 4chan is the goto site among underages because it's edgy and cool. The mere fact that it is a place that actively condemns going to other websites or even other boards both attracts those with a mindset obsessed with ingroups and "high school popularity" and demonstrates that it's infested with them.

I'd say probably 1 in 10 people are breaking the rules by being here.
>>
let me get this straight, the fact that they had a plan before making the series is somehow an argument that it's bad? if they winged every episode and it happened to be "edgy" that would be good? what a shitty thread
>>
>>121237006
Wow dude, it's almost like the themes and events of a show are intentional! Before this post, I thought that Madoka was planned to be a lighthearted SoL until an animator sneezed and accidentally drew a monster biting a girl's head off.
>>
>>121238164
Please, explain to me how the finale was deus ex machina.
