I would've thought seeing an infinitely expanding cast of new characters repeatedly challenge Shizuo and Celty and fail would have gotten boring at some point but I still watch this show every week.
The writing is certainly starting to feel like a 1-trick pony, though. Wasn't the plot of this show supposed to revolve around a teenage boy and his internet gang?

But Izaya's shenanigans amount to essentially doing fuck all, wanking about how philosophical he is and how much he naturally understands the human mind, and magically knowing everything despite never being seen gathering information or being involved in anything that happens.
If anything he's just a plot device that remains relevant by serving as the author's mouthpiece.
And the going's on in the city start getting dull when it's the same note of 'expendable gangsters get blown out by the superheros' and 'serial killer of the week fucks with an urban legend and gets wrecked for their trouble'.
I still haven't started this because of how dull it feels. What happened to the stellar writing from the first cour of the last show? It's been going downhill sense the saka and yellow scarves shit happened.

Um, he is seen gathering information. He obviously had spies in Namie's company during the dollars arc and was in contact with haruda's lackey in the yellow scarves. We even got a shot at his computer in episode 2 where he has about 6 'update emails' from contacts in different districts.
Not defending him, but he does actually know his stuff and isn't lying about that (for the most part)

To be fair, she only knew of Celty as the Black Motorbike, not the Headless Rider.
Most of this season has just been buildup which I wouldn't mind if it were a little quicker or at least let us see how crazy some of the rest of the cast can be.
I'm just waiting for Mikado to oneshot every rival gang.
