I hate that people always say shit like this, as if using photoshop or filtering photos for backgrounds isn't a common technique among nearly all manga artists these days, or as if it detracts from Asano's skill at actual hand-drawing. His art looks fucking amazing. Using PS and filtered photos, and digital tools of any kind are just techniques. It still takes skill to use them in a way that makes a striking and appealing visual product.

There isn't. Why is it "wrong"? As long as an artist is not trying to pass off work done using photos or computer-assisted drafting type tools as hand drawn work, then I don't possibly see how it could be "wrong". It may nto be to your taste, (or mine in many cases, Oku's work being one that I don't care for as much,) but it's a perfectly viable and legitimate technique, variations of which are used my most manga artists. It only makes sense in an industry like manga where there is a lot of pressure to turn out work very quickly that artists would use every tool at their disposal to produce the best looking finished product in the least amount of time possible.
That being said, I do still have a special appreciation for artists who do most of their work the old fashioned hand drawn way, like the two quoted here
