The saddest part is once you take away the MMO aspect and come up with a less well defined setting (i.e. Accel world) Reki isn't even that terrible. (Though from SAO to AW is way more than just a change in setting.
The actual MMO parts of LH are the best for people who actually enjoy MMOs. Though the recent drop in quality along with focus on the least interesting characters in the entire series make for some very shitty episodes as of late.
I can see how Minori & co. give a chance to show Shiroe's in a mentoring role but honestly they should have just stayed in the backseat after hamelin. Everything after that just felt contrived.

SAO starts off like a good MMO, but becomes Bullshit later. They do a lot of time skips because no one wants to watch people "grinding" but that takes away the MMO essence. WORDS WORDS WORDS is the least of its problems, I've read plenty of books and I enjoy most of shaft's shows, hack is simply uninteresting in its base form and the characters don't feel authentic at all. Most of them feel like robots or actors reading off a script and not real human beings. I don't know if the game is any different, but the anime is just that : boring as hell. It's not like I need to see action, I would've been fine with a laid back relaxing MMO experience from some crafter classes, but spending the entire series on the hedgehog dilemma is overkill,

I don't think highly or lowly of either of them. I never bothered with SAO, so all the "It's bad it sucks it's shit glop" is just a meme to me and doesn't influence me to think it's bad. Likewise with LH, "it's great it's better than SAO it's all real-mmo-like" that its /v/ fanbase spouts doesn't make me think it's good either. From an outside perspective, each fanbase just gives different flavors of the same praises and criticisms (if you can even call them that) as to, respectively, why their show is good and the other is bad, so much so that it's not worth the mental effort to differentiate the two.
