Take note that youmu are created through intense emotions, and Akihito has more than enough energy to create (or recreate) Mirai using his intense feelings for her.
Well, this is a widely-accepted headcanon, though. Only the movies will confirm or debunk what actually happened to her.

I'm not saying it came out of nowhere, but the ending would have resonated much more strongly if they didn't pull a Disney death at the last moment. Hell, I wouldn't even have been mad if they brought her back right at the beginning of a second season.
Honestly the whole demon plot made no sense, but it wasn't really supposed to, it's a slice-of-life where the cast just happens to have weird magical battles in their spare time

The plot fell really nicely into place once we found out that Mirai wasn't just stabbing Aki to be moe. But I guess thats just me, even if they never connected the plot points I would of still loved it just because kyoani.

Not really, it's pretty bad in all aspects, and the directors/animators or who the fuck ever at Kyoani couldn't direct an action scene to save their lives, so what would be some decently animated FIGHTAN scenes usually just wind up short and kind of lame, outside certain instances. I remember mentally tuning out of the shoe halfway through the first episodes when it became readily apparent that whoever was in charge of the show had no idea how basic physics should be conveyed visually, and by episode 2 decided to cover up any fast movements with flashing lights and bullshittery.
It stinks, but if you're a rampant Kyoani apologist with no shame then you might derive some modicum of enjoyment out of it, but you're wrong and stupid for doing so, and also I hate you.
