There are bad dubs, that's not even questionable, but there's many good dubs too, look at some of the low-cost dubs like SAO or many (not all!) from Kaze (Fuck french Fate, fuck french dubbed Negima, these were horrible)
People don't even watch them because "eww french cooties", but goddamn, if you can't appreciate good old dubs from the La Kaz on Canal +, it's not a question of taste, it's a question of hearing troubles. (And GTO isn't AS good as everyone says, many voices are pretty bad in there, Onizuka's saves everything)

I grew up watching dubs because we had a lot of series licensed here.
It's not a matter of preferring Japanese over French, it's just the fact our dubbers voice are fucking scary and doesn't seem natural most of the time.
On the contrary, the French dubs of cartoons don't feel as awful.

Also, most dub don't apply the DBZ formula anymore, apart from kids anime. There still are lousy actors/adaptator, but much less than there were in the 80/90's

The worst part about this is that they don't change how Araragi's voice sounds when he's thinking to himself. There's a whole lot of subtle audio mixing going on in Bakemonogatari that's hard to replicate.
