How much value do you put into visual direction?

Anime like cinema is a visual medium, so a lot, it's a shame that most anime (like most commercials movies and tv shows I suppose) lacks of the "show don't tell" and just infodump everything.
And is also important to set up the atmosphere of the show.

Quite a bit. Visual direction + sound can make for great viewing even if the plot is shite.
I know this is a shitposting thread, but I want to post some /w/ anyway.

Pretty much this. Given that anime and manga are part of a visual medium, the art and direction (where applicable) counts for a lot.
It's like having good choreography in a martial arts film.
None of those are impressive.

Stop making this fucking thread; no good discussions are ever had.

Anime actually uses a lot of camera tricks. They use it a lot more than even regular television shows to the point I think they kinda overdo it.
Recently I watched the new Justice League movie and thought it was okay. I then rewatched Eureka 7 in in 5 minutes they used more camera techniques and strategic angles than in the entirety of the Justice League movie.
