Herakles was not given the chance to perform better. If Lancelot were in the same situation he would have lasted less than 1/12th the amount of time that Herakles did because he doesn't have battle continuation to keep going like the greatest demigod.
It was not "Herakles VS Gilgamesh", it was "Gilgamesh VS Illya with Herakles in the way". Lancelot was never pressed to defend Kariya in a similar way.
