Catching up on Vinland because Hox finally got around to it. I don't really blame him for doing other stuff (Terrarium was good and Chinggis Khan), and it was nice having a raft of chapters.

Just recently started Tokyo Ghoul. A couple days ago I caught up on Watamote and that Shield Hero one. I also read Kiss x Sis whenever it releases, but that's about it. I'm having trouble with Tokyo Ghoul on Mangareader. Shit is hard to read, as in see. >>
>>120358968
There have been numerous arguments for this. Previously I might have contested that it would be full of WSJ crap and would do very little to help the problem, but honestly I don't think that's the biggest issue.

My new understanding would be that it would divide /a/, and if the last week has given any kind of insight, it was that /a/ is surprisingly resolute. The unfortunate offshoot known as /jp/ gives me question to wonder what the long term effects of such a divide would give and no doubt moot knew this too.
>>
>>120358968
I don't like it. A board split worked out for /vg/ because general threads made up for a huge bulk of /v/. I don't think manga readers number anywhere near the rest of the population on /a/ proportionally, killing a lot of discussion.
>>
>>120359143
I don't see how it could divide /a/. It's not like people on the whole come to /a/ for the manga threads. Instead of the 2-3 unique manga threads on /a/ at most, including one seldom seen general type thread like this one, we could have a board where you don't worry about the threads getting pruned. Persistent threads would make discussion of less popular works happen more often. I think /lit/ is the best example of what we would expect, except since it's not "real" literature you wouldn't have the psuedo intellectual shitposters.

There could be a us vs them mentality but really, people already get butthurt over anime on faggots and anime only fans don't care for still pornography drawings anyway, nothing new there.
>>
>>120359177
>I don't think manga readers number anywhere near the rest of the population on /a/ proportionally
If any unrepresentative and misleading polls are to mean anything, nearly half of /a/ reads some manga or only read manga. Sure the other half reads basically nothing, but the number of mangafags isn't small.
>>
>>120359240
Lots of mangafags come to /a/ entirely for manga threads. I do. Because there isn't anywhere to go. It's even worse than it is for anime. I stopped watching anime years ago, like lots of people I've talked to here.
>>
>>120359304
So surely it would be better to have a board dedicated to it? You post a thread about a particular lesser known manga, you MIGHT post at a time when a handful of people have read it, you might get a couple of replies before it dies out. That's it.

You post it on a manga board and the thread doesn't get pruned for days, peoplle use the catalog on smaller boards so you wind up with a thread that won't necessarily be quick replies, but still is a persistent discussion. It's not like you are then banned from /a/ either, all splitting the boards would do is stop manga threads from being swamped.

I actually emailed moot about this a few weeks back and no response, I figure maybe this was considered in the past and decided against and has never been brought up again.
>>
>>120359250
>>120359304
Just look at the catalog. The vast majority of threads concern anime. Manga just isn't as popular around here as anime is, which is disappointing to me because outstanding manga are far more common than outstanding anime.

Did creation of the /vr/ board divide /v/?
>>
>>120359381
It's been brought up lots of times and not only did moot disagree, so did most of /a/.

Sure, the prospect is nice, to find people who are interested in the same series, but that's not why I like to post on /a/. I'd rather have one live conversation with one person than a snail-pace conversation with a dozen - because you may as well trade it with a forum.

>>120359390
Of which, lots of them are also manga. If you actually went and counted, it's not that bad - even the actual threads specifically for manga, but the series that are focused on are usually widely popular series.
>>
>>120359448
In this scenario, the manga board would be the offshoot. Is /vr/ flourishing or floundering?

A decent number of threads may be tangentially related to manga, but still, the great majority of discussion that happens on this board is about anime.

Having a thread about an anime series that has a manga adaptation does not a manga discussion make.

>>
>>120359569
Do you think the Jojofags ever not mention the manga? Ripping out manga is literally ripping out the heart of lots of series, and honestly, I tend to think manga /a/ tends to keep more people in line - something that /a/ would suffer for.

>Ripping out manga is literally ripping out the heart of lots of series
And that is what happens a lot of the time. Anime is simply the more popular medium here. Even if a series begins with a manga that is adapted into an anime, it's quite often that the adaptation is discussed more often than the original. It's sad that a lot of people miss out. The simple truth is that we're in the minority - I think a split would only slow any existing manga discussion that there is even further.

Pic related. Mizuki is a bloody genius.

Also read Ginga Patrol Jaco by Toriyama. Very nice read. Very good light comedy, some of the jokes were perfect. I really liked how it wasn't too dependent on action or jokes but mostly on telling the short story. The only thing I could say against this is that the connection to Dragon Ball story is a bit unnecessary and a bit forceful at times. The story could flow flawlessly even without it.

if that person was on /a/ and /ma/ you are still going to have that one on one discussion same as if it had been in a manga thread on /a/, that doesn't change. the snail pace is just going to be because the thread lives so much longer and people browsing at diferent times can chip in. if you made a thread on /a/ about it instead all you get is the lucky discussion with a handful of people for a short time and that's the end of it.

I would be most worried that these people would be told to go to their respective boards. Look at how many people get pissed off at 'spoilers' because they didn't read the manga a decade ago. I think you underestimate how many people would simply not visit /a/ anymore if there was a split.

I don't think it was the relationship between the two boards that >>120359143 was trying to talk about. Who gives a shit about that? The problem is that a split would only stifle discussion because it would reduce the number of people exposed to manga discussion.

>>
>>120359945
People who don't go out of their way to seek manga discussion get exposed to it on /a/. They take part out of curiosity or some other interest, and they may latch on.

Splitting manga off removes that entirely. /a/ is one of the biggest boards on this site. Have you ever ventured to a smaller board, where posts happen once an hour later at night? It's just not fun.

I think scanlators forgot about it. There's probably a reason for people forgetting, most people I've seen just wanted to see the end of it more than actually wanting to read more.
>>
>>120359860
Well, the characters are usually fine and pretty well detailed, but most of time we get Kubo-level of backgrounds, and everything is arranged in a huge mess on the page. Double page spreads are gorgeous though.
The manga is actually pretty ancient now, I'm sure it has aged quite a bit
>>
>>120360025
That's a good point, but I think that's overstating the few manga threads on /a/ recruiting new fans. A manga board wouldn't suddenly mean people are banned for discussing manga. It would be fine to run it exactly like it is - the majority of threads on /a/ are about anime that people are watching, often scattered throughout the threads are discussions on the source manga. The discussions would still be fine there just discussing a book a movie is based on in a /tv/ thread. The difference is there is a dedicated home for that stuff if you wanted to have a more indepth discussion.

Are you moot btw

I feel like you are moot, pls make a manga board before you leave forever. also email me back asshole.

NotACaptcha is shit and I wish there was the old captcha even if they were on hard-mode. Makes it even less motivating to dump manga.

Leaving /a/ as is in regards to manga discussion would have countless people question the need for a manga board in the first place.

also why would you think I am moot

I actually was in Japan and bought a shit ton of manga. This one was at the top of my list. I don't know where the scanlations are now, but let me tell you that in it's entirety, volume 2 completely melted my heart. I didn't think it'd be able to, and feared that it might just be more of volume 1 (which would still be great, just a tad repetitive) but holy shit does volume 2 deliver.

Other than that I bought like over 100 volumes of manga in total. Can't wait till work slows down and I can read it. Only thing I couldn't find that I wanted was the entire Getter Robo saga.

She's definitely grown more honest/accepting of romantic things over time - you can see the progression happening chapter to chapter. I eat that shit up.

This last chapter upped the ante on sexual tension, which was near nonexistent before. Surprising but I hope it keeps going this way.

WHY IS NOBODY READING OVERLORD

I think it's going to be a massive hit, or it crashes hard. The Light Novel is really promising, and it's a different take that I've never seen before.

I'm also reading Kingdom (who doesn't), The Arm's Peddler, and whatever new manga that just got scanned and I decided to start reading.

But the those above are my top three. I really want to see more overlord.

Let's put it this way. The MC of overlord is a lich king. Not a human, but a full on spooki skeleton that can raise dead and specializes in magic.

>>
>>120362083
I'm mentioning it because it is already slated to receive an anime, on top of the manga. There might not be much out there, but I want people to know about it, add it to their reading list, you know? I've got over 100 titles but I'll add on more if I think it's promising. Hell I'll read it if it as long as it's seinen. Romance +seinen is a good combo, or sci-fi+seinen (or all three and you get Planetes). Fantasy - seinen is good too. I usually stay away from comedy since I am actually trying to look for a good plot.

>>
>>120362472
I have read the LN. If you have ever played an mmorpg for a while, you would know this feeling, otherwise it might miss you.

Imagine you have been at the helm of a clan you formed years ago in a game called yssangrdil. You racked up feats, you conquered clans, and you raided more dungeons than any other clan could say. Even when 5 of the top 20 guilds came to destroy your home, they could not get past your guardians.

But alas, that is no longer true. your clanmates, your brothers in arms are now long gone. It is rare that you see one online in any given week, and many have been AWOL for months and years with jobs in the real world, if not given up the game for good.

Now, it is the last day of yssangdril, and you wish to watch the clock at the bottom of your labryinth where your clan calls home. Even though it is widely know across the world that the game is ending, only two people logged on. Even worse, one person left an hour before since he 'didn't feel like watching the end'. It is truly you, alone, in a hall of past relics; a hall of former glory. And as you watch the clock tick down you wonder if it was worth it.

However, the clock keeps going, past midnight. And this is where the story starts. The MC starts to travel the world in search to see if he can find ex guildmates or ex players in a world that knows nothing about him. He also is very strong. His companions are people that used to be programmed NPCs, but now act real.

I went way too deep into that, but I loved the idea. I formed a CW guild with a couple of other people back in 2005. We slowly turned into a massive guild that would win almost all battles, but after the wildy updates many of them left. I haven't seen a single one of them. I am now the third rank on a clan in RS3 with over 300 people but I mostly solo dg since doing anything else reminds me of what used to have been.

On /a/ if there is a new chapter of something i'm reading or in these rare manga threads.

The whole deal with the "Please give us a manga board even if we know it probably wouldn't work very well" is because there is literally not a single decent place to discuss manga (and anime, actually) out of here.

I tried to take a look at /r/Manga, and while I have to admit it's much better than the anime counterpart (not like that's much of an accomplishment), it's still lightyears worse than here - when there is some manga discussion i mean.
The only thing it have over /a/ is that it's a separate thing only for manga.

Otherwise you might try your luck with "national" websites, but that doesn't really count.
>>
>>120363502
and this is a great example as to why I left /a/
you people sometimes take things way too seriously. It used to be that no one really gave a fuck other than that we'd hate on the big three, but now you people just call everyone out.

yes saddly, believe it or not but the a great part of manga readers are actually underage reddit/tumblr-tier posters, you can see that when you read the posts in mangaupdates or mangafox and they are either SJWs, edgelords or fedoras of the highest levels.

For some reason neckbeards do read the obscure stuff but still consume more anime than manga.

I've become so fed up with shitty no-personality spineless male MCs that I've stopped picking up most romance themed stories. The premise might be great, the girls might be super cute, but as soon as I see the 'average every-day guy' with his generic MC haircut, vacant nice-guy smile, white shirt and black pants I just have to drop it. I don't even give them a chance anymore.

The sad thing is I'm probably missing one or two good series as a result.

Fuck yes. I would love a series about cute teachers doing cute things with other teachers.

>cute lesson planning
>cute staff meetings
>cute substitutes being bullied by the class
>cute lunchtime duty
>cute extracurricular activities
>cute staff parties

There's so much untapped potential here.

Now this is trolling.
>>
>>120363261
On /a/. I don't go anywhere else on the internet.
>>
I picked up Domestic na Kanojo from a few threads ago and just finished the last chapter today

like it so far until I found out it was made by the good ending author who I've heard is a mini-seo

should I worry anons?
>>
The last manga I read was Yuri Danshi since anon was kind enough to translate a couple of chapters.

I ended up on the dynasty reader as a result and I'm going through All Hail Empress, although it's a manhua. The main girl is great.
>>
>>120363261
If I translate it, I dump it on /a/ and discuss it here. Manga reader sites are fucking toxic, and I've never touched any community outside of /a/ for discussing my weeb shit. If I know someone who's read it, I'll talk to them. If I don't know anyone who's read it, or who might enjoy reading it and it never gets threads on /a/, then I just never discuss it.
>>
>>120363710
You'd think they'd like manga more because it had a variety of lgbt titles from the past couple decades, not to mention mountains of fujoshit doujinshi but I guess they're more interested in Avengers porn and lesbian multiracial poc fetish comics

It's probably better this way.
>>
>>120363261
Only these threads or one page threads. It used to be a little better when people were able to have storytime threads but the timer that was added to prevent spam/general threads killed a lot of interest in making them, since it takes hours just to post one volume.

Such a fun series. It's unbelievably cute for its themes.
>>
are you guys serious that french/other translations are more reliable than english?

english the greatest language every invented...how could this be true?

>>120362995
either people just read GTO and wanted more super teachers

or people were reading TWGOK and wanted more swag neckbeard

or people were reading Super Dreadnought Girl and wanted more of the mangaka's work

naturally it's not as good as any of them
>>
>>120365354
Fucking this.
>Want to dump manga on a fucking image board
>Cooldowns increased
I wish mods would lift that restriction for people actually dumping large amounts of manga.

>>120365905
Actually it's by the people doing it more than anything. If you have a Japanese native speaker translating something into English and their English isn't great, you get really literal sounding "awkward" translations. If they're an English native who's moon isn't great, it'll usually read well but isn't always accurate. I imagine French is the same way.

only on /a/

I tried to talk on MU, but with no avail
there was a manga board on a site associated with wakachan but the admit of said site got v&'d

main couple are cute

but they don't hold a candle to /ss/

Oh well, time to buy a new copy.

Planning on starting Vagabond because I love Slam Dunk and Real, but it's just so big... as in, Berserk big. And with a similar schedule. So I've been putting it off for months now.

I'm confused as to what that means.

>>120364733
Well, there's Kodomo no Jikan...
>>
>>120366291
Almost 350 chapters and ongoing big.
>>
>>120366335
That's not "big", though.

>watch Isuca episode 1
>fuck censorship, let's read the manga instead
>chapter 1 is completely fucking different

Why? It's a standard opener, nothing special, yet the anime makes it even more cliche.

Reading Re:Marina

and though I like other series other "cute bride" series like Oku-san and Sachiare the MC of this series is pissing me off every chapter. The wife tries to do everything for him and he treats her like dirt. This latest chapter is sort of understandable because he's equating his eventual death with his father but the fact he lashes out on her despite confirming her own loss is a dick-move.

>>120366357
Only bigger thing I can think of is Golgo.
>>
>>120366357
Ippo, please.
>>
>>120366406
Get some manga culture, guy.
>>
Close to finishing Resentment.

2 or 3 chapters from catching up with Real

Also reading Prison school
>>
Currently reading Black Jack.

Man, it's just so good. Strongly 3rd favorite Tezuka.
>>
>>120366432
Then tell me, what (good, non-Shonen Jump) mango is bigger than 350 chapters other than Golgo?

And in any case, 350 chapters IS pretty damn big.
>>
>>120366449
It's truly repetitive after volume 5. Be patient.

Kojiro saga of Vagabond is so fucking good. Better than most of musashi's parts imo.

>yet the anime makes it even more cliche.

welcome to anime
>>
>>120366525
But I'm on volume 12 and it doesn't feel repetitive at all.

Dat vengeance.
