When do we get more focus on the coloring process? We saw a little bit today but it was mostly a "make it less saturated" kind of deal. I want them to go from the beginning of the process to the end. Don't a lot of people work on coloring too? I want to see what their work conditions are like.

So guys, funny story, apparently the author didn't like character designs you guys made. Now, I know I said that you could go ahead, but funny story, we need you to stop production and redo them if you want to continue this show.
>>
How can this show keep being so good so consistently? There have been absolutely zero drops in quality in any aspect of the show and I watch it as soon as I get home from work every single thursday. No melodrama shit, characters act mostly professional with just the right amount of whimsy so that you get attached to them, and the direction is absolutely inspired sometimes.

>>
>>120239489
I thought it was a nice touch that they put in that little scene of her spilling the tea.
It's pretty obvious that the stress of her job is getting worse, and that they're going somewhere with this.

She's going to quit and find a new job before the end of the series, isn't she?

>>120239570
That's true, but it could very easily have been very bland. Instead they're perfectly juggling the conflict of the studio with several character arcs at the same time, and also like I said before the direction is stupidly good at certain points. Pic related, little shit like this really grabs people's attention.

I think the show has one big flaw:

CG girl. She shouldn't have left a job after only working there six months and shouldn't have found a job again so easily. That's unrealistic in the extreme especially when the show prides itself on showing a grounded account of the industry.

It sticks out really badly.
>>
>>120243515
Beautyspot-kun said he'd hook her up.
She got a job because Aoi has connections, it's anime nepotism at work.
>>
>>120243550
Seems more extreme with Diesel.
>>
>>120243515
But getting a job through connections is very realistic. It shows just how important it is.
>>
>>120243515
It's almost like they cut out her sub-plot for the other girls. Well she was my least favorite anyway
>>
>>120243515
I don't think it's completely unrealistic as you make it sound. The fact that she found a job again so easily is more to the unrealistic side, even though she did have a connection, but the fact that she left her job after working there for 6 months is quite realistic if you know exactly what you want to do. It just takes guts to do.
>>
>>120242659
I'm really hoping that was a setup to her noticing some autistic little detail later and saving their show
>>
>>120243550
Nepotism isn't the word I would use in that situation. It has the connotation that the person hired does not have the appropriate qualifications for the job.

Diesel-chan is good at what she does. The writer and the director were both happy with the work and they insisted on bringing her on-board. Would Diesel-chan have gotten the opportunity to do research without her connections to Oi-chan? No, but that's why it's called connections, and not network. It's how the world works, you don't make professional and personal connections, you don't get shit.
>>
>>120243550
>>120243599
>>120243581

Getting it with connections I can buy, but they didn't even bring up the fact she'd quit a job after half a year at a good company. There was no job interview or anything.

I just can't believe you'd throw away a good job like that in this economy when you're new to the industry and need a good track record on your CV. And it's not like she was overworked, couldn't they have possible done something with doing something she loves more as a part-time thing?

I don't know but it really really stands out as a stupid choice for a show like this.
>>
>>120242401
where the hell did glasses girl come from? was she in the interview episode?
>>
>>120243599
>>120243765

>Even Tarou senses how awkward it is

A rare occurrence.
>>
>>120243770
Yes, she likes Ghibli movies
>>
>>120243765
I think you overestimate the difficulty it is to get a job in animation over there. It typically is 'if you can do it, then you can do it' sort of deal, just that your wages are shit starting because you are not experienced. She got a job at a good company too, so it isn't hard to believe she'd get in a group that appears to be a very small staff.
>>
>>120243765
She's new star for CG tires, a small CG company of course will hire her to make plane tires
>>
>>120243765
>couldn't they have possible done something with doing something she loves more as a part-time thing?

doing something you hate just to survive isn't any way to live OP. it's the reality for most people, but there's no denying, it's a shitty way to live.
Misa was really brave to gamble like that and pursue her passion. Shows you can't get anywhere in life without having direction and guts to follow it.

>>120243853
right i remember that now. she was the one who didn't like commuting. i thought her remark about ghilbi was to show that she didn't really have any interest in anime outside of the mainstream. how do people like that get hired?
>>
>>120243947
>how do people like that get hired?
"Passion for anime" isn't exactly a job requirement or an indicator for competence, and just look at Tarou.
>>
>>120243947
Because Musani is desperate for production assistant slaves.
>>
>>120243947
Because the companies need production assistants badly, as it's a stressful job which probably has a ton of turnover. If they can find someone who looks to be competent they will hire them. Besides, they hired the otaku girl too. I'm trying to remember the other people interviewed...

Basically, they need people to do the work and they try to hire competent people. Being an otaku can be a bonus for the company (certainly otaku fit into the culture better), but they'd rather have someone who does the work well than, well, Tarou.
>>
>>120239475

They're making an anime about the thing they know the most about. It's not surprising at all.

It used to be the main reason I started watching anime. But then my standards got lower as time went on. Also, it's been a while since I've seen a sakuga thread. The last one I saw one was when Yozakura Quartet was airing.

everyone answers to somebody. and when it comes to $$$ (man-hours) and reputation, somebody ends up paying the price of failure. it's unrealistic that they would NEVER be granted face-to-face with the author. the fact they would need to twist somebody's arm, more realistic, but still musani dropped the ball by not pushing the matter.

And how much "arm-twisting" do you think Musani needs to do before the publisher thinks GI Staff may be more "cooperative" and actually getting production work done instead of bugging them day in and day out? You speak as though Musani has made zero reasonable effort to ensure that they were meeting the author's intentions.

What are 'contracts'? You don't undertake a year long project without first getting certain guarantees in writing. They weren't a position where the project sponsor could all of a sudden change contractors on a whim. Besides which, entering into an agreement like this requires good faith from both sides. The publisher as the project sponsor would have been responsible for ensuring Musani had all the resources at their disposal to ensure the project moved ahead: that includes the power to prod the author to work with Musani when needed.
>>
>>120247998
I don't like any of them. The PINK PINK PINK PINK design is just bad, so no variation in the saturation could be good.
>>
>>120248642
>ou speak as though Musani has made zero reasonable effort to ensure that they were meeting the author's intentions.

that's just it. they made ZERO effort. they took zero initiative, and simply trusted the slimey agents words at face value. they were obviously having trouble getting face-to-face time with the author. a phone call to the big-wigs at the publisher (who have a clear stake in the anime's success/failure) is all it would have taken to make that happen.

They were speaking with the agent, who is meant to act as a representative. They had no way of knowing that the author wasn't getting the information, although we as the audience could see it getting set up to go that way.

I don't understand why you're being autistic about this.
>>
>>120248844
It's still mainly the editor's fault. He'd better get punished for not doing his job right. Hopefully he gets replaced.
>>
>>120248897

that much is obvious. and look where it got them. they should have pushed harder to avoid this very situation.

Going outside the established lines of communication could potentially get them a reputation for being difficult to work with. They're not exactly a company with a reputation that will allow them to pick and choose clients. They're in a position where they need to both put out good quality work, and bend over backwards for their clients to get more opportunities to put out good quality work.
>>
>>120249089
>citation needed
Even if that were true, then he can keep his superficial title but someone else should be assigned to be the representative for the publisher/author.

Actually, animators are selected by several tests consisting of making animations out of various scenarios. They are given a piece of paper with a drawing on it and they have to animate it as instructed with a limited amount of paper.
>>
>>120249169
milestones require sign-off. you don't move to phase 2 of a project without knowing your client is satisfied with the deliverables of phase 1. it's in everyone's best interest. musani should have either pushed the agent to either cough up the author or to sign off on phase 1 in his stead. you had better fucking believe the agent would have coughed up the author if he was pressed.

I think you overestimate their position. Seems like their options were to sit on their hands refusing to work beyond demanding to see the author or to just start production and hope that what just happened doesn't.

They were approved to begin work by their designated line of communication to both the client company and the author.

It's pretty clear that this whole arc is about dealing with unreasonable clients, in the same way that the first arc was about internal complications.
